First and foremost, all of this information is just a rumor. It was posted in this blog by a group of supposed developers working on the Revolution. They’ve posted info before that they said Nintendo had forced them to remove. This is the latest information they claim to have permission to release:

-Nintendo’s Next-Gen console WILL be the most powerful console of all time.
-Downloadable 1st party games are FREE.
-The controllers will have an optional gyroscopic feature to them.
-The console will ship in the price range of $150-200 USD.
-There will be 50 games available at the launch of the Revolution.
-Super Smash Bros: Fire will ship with the Revolution as a BONUS.

Some of it seems far fetched, but really all we can do is wait and see.

Found this interesting family tree for video game controllers. Awsome work here, as you can see Nintendo is one of the main innovators in the biz, almost all of the controllers on the tree stem off from a Nintendo creation. It even has page of info for each controller so you can find out more about them. Check it out Here.

Jim Merrick, head of NOE’s marketing, said in a recent interview on Gameindustry.bizthe Nintendo has big plans to focus on Europe. He also hints that there will be WiFi download pods for DS coming to European retailers soon. As for the price of the sexy GameBoy Micro, Merrick says that they are aiming for a price between the SP and the DS. This is all good news, but will we ever see the likes of Wifi Download stations? We can only hope.

Tanukisan alerted me to this great collection of music from the Tanguy Ukelele Orchestra. Yeah, thats right, Ukelele.

Some music from Tanguy Ukelele Orchestra. There’s some very innovative video game covers in there as well as some other stuff, some of it (I think) original. It’s all great to listen to, and it’s got that sort of Katamary Damacy/Feel the Magic vibe to it.

My favorites are Kid Icarus and Zelda at the moment. Enjoy!

Alot of Euro gamers have a bit of a bone to pick when it comes to release dates. I know at least a few of you on this site have expressed your concerns. While this isnt a Nintendo only problem, the fact that Nintendo has so many exclusive games can make it seem that much worse. Anyway, Eurogamer sat down with Jim Merrick, head of Nintendo’s European marketing, to talk about the future of Nintendo in Europe.

One of the strategies that Nintendo is really aggressively employing is the more global strategy - it’s not to always assume that Europe is last, that Europe is months or years late on getting product. It’s a difficult thing to accomplish. We think that people don’t understand that adding seven languages to Animal Crossing does delay the game a bit… But that said, we are not going to be two years late, as we were with Animal Crossing on GameCube, on any other products.

Even last year, Zelda: Minish Cap launched first in Europe - before Japan, before the USA. We’re doing that increasingly, looking at where the best opportunities in the market are globally, not the assumption that it’ll be Japan, then US, then Europe.

And you know, from a practical standpoint, Europe is the only market that’s growing. Year on year we have phenomenal growth in Europe, and there’s tremendous potential here. Er, there. We’re here. You know what I mean! [Laughs]

EuroGamer Interview

UPDATE: All of you folks from Europe, take this survey from Nintendo of Europe and let them know what you think. You can also get a Game Boy Micro and Revolution wallpaper for completing it:

NOE Survey

Its been a week (doesnt it seem longer than that?) since E3 and I asked some of the 4cr staff to give their impressions of the show. Since I already did a post E3 wrapup, I thought Id quickly talk about my thoughts on the Revolution and its future before turning it over to the rest of the staff.

[ Nick ]

In the week since the Revolution was unvieled at E3 (well, sorta) I have run into a suprising number of non-gamers who said they were excited about the Revolution. Not only was I surprised because I doubt most of these people followed E3, but also because about half of them were female.

Of course, the big draw is the backwards compatibility with games from previous generations. From Tecmo Football, Super Mario Bros 3, Contra and Bart Simpson, Ive heard people reminisce about the game they loved back when they actually used to play games. Talk about drawing in the casual gamer.

Another thing Ive been thinking about is where the Revolution will fall with the mainstream (aka Sony) gamer. I believe that Sony will lose a bit of its grip this coming generation, but it will still be the market leader. However, I can see a sort of Nintendo Renaissance. The Revolution, in my vision, will come to be ‘the peoples second console.’ Mainstream gamers and early adopters will have a PS3 or 360, but sitting along side their Sony or Microsoft console of choice will be a Revolution.

With the ability to play old favorites, and the wonderful Nintendo exclusives we can expect, I see the Revolution as bringing nuetrality to Nintendo’s image. Will it become the dominant console next generation? As much as Id like it to, its highly unlikely. Instead, the Revolution will make Nintendo acceptable to mainstream gamers…maybe even cool.

Nintendo almost certainly wont win the hardcore gaming battle with the Revolution. But they will widen gaming and attract more casual players. The console will slip into living rooms thanks to girlfriends and ex-gamers, grandparents and roommates. Nintendo still has a long way to go to win back the mainstream gamer, but from the look of things they will do it by piggybacking on the casual gamer. Quiet and modest comes the revolution.

Hey look! It’s a new Nintendo DS color… and look… its inspired by a Pokemon! But wait… even more surprising… it’s only for Japan!

Ign got a hands-on behind close door with the Nintendo Revolution during E3. Old news, but still an interesting read for those of you who missed it.

The Revolution’s slot-loading drive is unbelievably gorgeous when viewed up close. It really is striking. The drive is not just illuminated, but surrounded by a sleek blue light, and it accepts both GameCube Optical Discs and new 12cm discs designed specifically for Revolution. The interesting bit is that the drive easily takes both sizes without any fuss. Gamers just drop any GCN or Revolution title in and it automatically works. Nintendo indicated that the drive is one of the first to intuitively do that. Power, reset and eject buttons are located on the front panel of the unit. Meanwhile, a flap on the front of the machine hides the slots for the 512MB memory cards that Revolution utilizes for downloads and game saves.

So I’m guessing you’ll be able to buy extra memory cards to save more stuff. I wonder if it will be affordable for extra memory?
And I thought they announced 512MB memory inside of it for storage, no mention of the memory card. No matter what, it’s good news that you’ll be able to take it out and swap it.

What about the back of the unit, though? Tech-nuts want to know, what kind of outputs does the machine have? Well, there are two USB ports and a power connection. The machine features no digital audio out. Instead, it boasts a single proprietary output for video and audio. The output looks exactly like the component out on GameCube. We asked Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto if Revolution would play high-definition games and he told us that he wasn’t sure if he was allowed to say yet.

I wondered what was in the back. I hope they at least support at least 720 for Hi-Def.

Revolution Hands-on

Since E3 the 4cr Forum has gained about 20 new members. We also have our first official moderator, Rubba.

With that in mind Ive revamped the style of the forum. At least its not so plain anymore. Anyway, now that we have almost 50 members decent conversations are starting to pop up. Its also nice to see people that dont frequent the irc chat can still converse on the forum. You can find the forum by the link on the top or side bar, or go directly there with the following addys:

Here are few new pics of Viewtiful Joe Scratch for the DS, as well as some VJ comics. Im not sure if this is just a mock comic, or if there is actually a manga series in Japan. I also thought I heard they were making a VJ cartoon…anyone heard anything about it?

According to MCV, the Revolution will come out in the states first, with a November 2006 release and shortly after it would release in Japan. People from Europe are not to expect it before spring 2007.

Here’s a quote:

But speaking to MCV after the event, a senior Nintendo source outlined the company’s current thinking. “Revolution will launch towards the end of next year,” the source said. “We’re currently looking at mirroring the DS strategy, so Revolution would release in the US first in November, closely followed by Japan – then we’re looking at March 2007 for PAL territories.”

Keep in mind that this is still speculation, as nothing official has been announced. Nintendo has also recently stated the importance of Europe for its continued growth, so hopefully a Euro release date wont be far behind the others.
