Gamespy has a nice article about the impact of the DS in the Japanese market place. Its a great look at Nintendo’s strategy with the machine and its ability to broaden gaming.

Few could have imagined it, but the DS is becoming the most significant new console in Japan since the PS2. What started as a rumbling — with great novelty games such as Wario and XX/YY — has recently turned into a full-scale dual-screen uprising led by Electroplankton and Nintendogs. For the past month or so, the DS has been outselling all other hardware (including the PS2 and PSP) and its software is performing equally well. To date, there are around 2.5 million DS owners in Japan.

Nintendo’s handheld online service will be launching soon and Nintendo is readying a multi million dollar ad campaign for it. Here is the first theatrical trailer for the service that will begin playing in theatres this weekend.

The verdict is still out on whether or not Geist is any good. The game ships 18 days and Nintendo has launched a site for the game. Not much there yet, but keep checking back if you are interested in the game.

[OMG its the Revolution! No, really!!]

No, it’s not NintendoON. This video shows what appears to be students from Carnegie Mellon University showing a tech demo in which Mario is controlled using a VR system. It’s pretty old, but very fun to watch.

It seems like Nintendo has started talking about the Revolution a bit more lately. Also, with the Tokyo Game Show coming in September we might be pretty close to finally knowing the truth. Anway, check out a few new comments by Miyamoto.

Miyamoto says that Nintendo has created such a controller. Asked about all the secrecy surrounding the new controller design, he says, ‘Graphic chips are one thing. Those are hard to imitate. But if we showed our controller, we’d be revealing way too much. It’s very easy to copy. We really want to present our interface, the controller, with software as a package.’

Some interesting news out of Famitsu claims that Polarium is headed to the GBA. The game will be without the challenge mode but will make up for it with triple the puzzles of the original. A little strange considering how important the stylus was for the game. Still, with the addition of some new modes and new color tiles, this could end up being better than the DS version.

Whats this? Has someone nabbed a Game Boy Micro early? Did they swipe it from E3? Did they teleport into NOJ like Nightcrawler and steal one? Naw, its just made of paper and tape. Ebay was born for suckers.

Next Generation has a short little profile on Michel Ancel, father of Rayman and Beyond Good & Evil. Anyone know where I can get a more in depth look at his career or some interviews with him?

Ive been a long time fan of the Chronicles of Narnia. So far the trailers for the movie have looked decent. Plus, I have a animator friend from college who is working on some of the CG characters for the movie…so Im really hoping this turns out well.

Of course, to go along with the movie release there will be a game. I think they showed off the game at E3 but I must have missed it. Today I was checking out some new screens and while it doesnt look amazing, it looks like it should be a passable game for those who enjoy the movie. Sorta like the Harry Potter games.

Apparently, Famitsu has spilled the beans on the title of the Feel The Magic sequel. Whats it going to be called?

Where Do Babies Come From

Lol. The first one was called ‘I Would Die For You’ in Japan. And I highly doubt this title would make it into US borders, but it is hilarious. Maybe you will have to impregnate a girl with the stylus…or deliver a baby or…ok, Ill stop now.

Here is a beautiful logic/puzzle indie game. Need I say more? Nope.

First people were worried about the Doom movie. Then Comicon came along and people thought that it might be ok. After watching this trailer I have to say…be very afraid. If this trailer is indicative of the final film then Im staying far far away. It looks like one of those movies that the general public will forget about in a week and gamers will ridicule for years. But, check it out and form your own opinion.
