Awesome. Looks like DarkFader and Loopy have successfully dumped the DS firmware. The info came from an update on Natriums website (creator of one of the DS passthrough units). Maybe I should get one of those GBA Flash Cards I was looking at…

Darkain had this to say about it:

‘this is something that has been worked on all day long today.
before everyone jumps up and is like “we need to add XYZ to the firmware!!!”, remember that it is only 256kb in size, and this must include existing system functions such as all existing menus, as well as the pictochat communication program. as soon as you start “adding” features, you must basically remove others, as there is a blatent lack of space.
DF beleives it is writable tho. he was testing the ability to write the personal data, and i think he got a portion of that working earlier before he ran off.’

Check out Natrium42’s site for the post and the zip file:

Natrium Weblog

Id par that baby down…strip out the opening screen, the birthday crap, the backlight on/off option, the personal message, and the alarm. Maybe even the sound effects too.

Then Darkain could give us that DS paint program and more pictochat abilities:

Nintendo has given members of its NOA site some new Zelda Wallpapers. Of course, I had to post them here for everyone. Nothing new, but they are still nice.

Anyway, you can also head on over to Nintendo.com and sign up. They usually just send out emails and give you a few free things (ie wallpapers), but sometimes you get something even cooler…like the Metroid Prime 2 demo disc.

Just a quick heads up. Nintendo has picked up the publishing rights for Meteos here in the states. It will be available June 27. Damn, thats a long way off. I think they want to time the puzzle releases though. Next month we will have Polarium and Pac-Pix. Not sure about May.

Erm…this game is strange. Check out these new pics of the RPG from Square-Enix. Will this ever come to the US?

Wow, I just found this really sweet wallpaper site via the Nintendorks forum. Nothing beyond N64 games, but thats fine with me. The ones that use the level tiles of old games like Super Mario Bros 3 are so cool! And I just love the layout of the site.

I also came across this cool wallpaper:

Gish

Here is a great game. In this indie game you control a little blob and move it around creatively designed levels. The cool part comes from using the physics of the blob. You can squish him, make him jump and make him climb walls. Its very well done and very fun.

This game also won the grand prize at the recent Independent Games Festival. Well deserved.

Steven Spielberg was recently honored for helping to setup Starlight. Starlight Starbright Foundation provides entertainment options for children in hospitals. Nintendo is also a parnter in the foundation.

Nintendo has always been good about helping sick and disabled children. At times, video games may seem pointless. However, they can bring a lot of joy, fun and togetherness to people. Just another reason why I love the company.

Mario Magnet

Yesterday I showed you guys some Nintendo/Pepsi bottlecaps. Well, one of our readers, Gary, has pointed out that Kid Robot has some very similiar magnets. Good work.

If you have never been to Kid Robot (check this old post) get on over there. They have some of the coolest toys you will ever see.

Superman

Here is a cool site I found thanks to SuperHeroHype. BlueTights has four videos on the set of the new Superman movie with Bryan Singer. I didnt realize this movie had even started filming yet. If X-Men was any indication, this movie should be awesome. I have much faith.

And that means that we will see another Superman game. Could we, for once, get a decent game? History is not on our side, but we might just get a break this time.

Sin City

Hot damn, I cannot wait for this movie. Make sure you go see it next Friday, April 1st. I promise you, this is going to be cool. In preparation for the movie, you should head out and buy some of the Sin City Trade Paper Backs. They are nice and cheap. Lots of guns, tits, and violence. Frank Miller is a genius.

Remember the announcement that Nintendo and Pepsi were teaming up in Japan for some DS promos? Well, here are some pics of the bottle caps you could have gotten. Actually, for an arm and a leg you can get them on ebay.

MK DS

This scan from EGM Magazine reveals that (at least as far as the mag is concerned) Mario Kart DS will be released in June. Now, the real question is; will it be Wifi? At GDC they made it sound like Kart and Metroid would only be Nifi. Come on Ninty, we need this!

Here are scans of Slime Morimori Dragon Quest 2 for the DS. I know nothing about this game, but it sure is good to have SquareEnix back.
