Famicom Dojo Podcast: Rad Sports Games

by Sean Corse

Once upon a time sports games were limited only by hardware capabilities and the imaginations of the teams of developers who made them. You had anthropomorphic animals playing America’s national past time in Bad News Baseball. You had Little Mac fighting Mike Tyson or a giant-headed Bill Clinton playing facing off against Scottie Pippen on the basketball court! Mario played soccer! Or Golf! Or… some other stuff!

One might think with EA locking up virtually all professional sports licenses into one samey simulator after another, developers would be forced into this kind of creativity again. Instead you have EA publishing the latest version of NBA Jam for iOS.

You’d think that there would be no adults with young kids who were still scared by what video games could do to their little ones, but apparently not everyone who grew up in the ’80s and ’90s played video games.

I know, right??
