I’m always amazed (and, honestly, a bit jealous) of some people amazing collections. Take Isao Yamazaki for example, he curated the Nintendo Museum shown in Osaka in 2007 and he also recently contributed to Florent Gorges excellent Nintendo History books (available in both French and English here); he was even the author of one of the first books that catalogued 70s and 80s Japanese consoles. Obviously, Yamazaki has the most amazing collection of Nintendo’s products, documenting the company through the history of its products including board games, Game & Watch handhelds and even the mamaberica stroller! You can read an interview at BeforeMario blog (a very informative blog for retro Nintendo stuff) and learn more about Yamazaki’s passion for Nintendo and how he began his hobby in a very modest fashion – with Game & Watch themed erasers!

Meet the GameBoo, a modded 4 face buttons Game Boy that can play a slew of emulated games including Neo Geo, GBA and NES as well as featuring a colour LCD screen, a MP3 player and other modern functionalities. The best part is that the whole process of one guy’s journey to create this unique device has been thoroughly documented here. Check it out!

Pure Nintendo have recently shown Dave Delisle of DavesGeekyIdeas.com idea of a DS/3DS player for the Wii U. The “DS U” would be a peripheral that resemble the Game Boy Player (one of the best peripherals ever made) but that would take advantage of the Wii U’s dual screens set-up to play your favorite DS and 3DS games on the big screen. The concept is pretty cool and the look of the peripheral, unlike many fan-made renders, is not so far from what Nintendo could produce if they were to pursue a similar idea.

Hyrule Historia is a fascinating book. But more importantly, it taught me how Tingle uses his backpack to inflate his balloon and that, my friends, is primordial knowledge:

Tingle!

Infendo have made available a watermarked PDF copy of the book for free, but honestly, buy the real thing, it is worth every penny.

I thought I would share with you my current backlog. I haven’t established myself a specific goal but these are the games I haven’t played in a while but that I will hopefully come back to and finish throughout the year. Here’s the list: Yakuza 4 (PS3), Yakuza Dead Souls (PS3), Fortune Street (Wii), Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii), Car Battler Joe (GBA), Professor Layton and the Unwound Future (DS), Freshly-Picked Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland (DS), Bayonetta (PS3), Viewtiful Joe 2 (GameCube), Glory of Heracles (DS), Ghost Trick (DS), Apollo Justice Ace Attorney (3DS)… and that’s without mentioning the games I am currently playing!

So, what game should I prioritize?

Hope you enjoyed reading my selection of random videogame fun. Come back next week for a specially themed Things X 5 feature, I hope you will like it.

Don’t forget, you can drop me hints on my Twitter account. Also, you are welcome to send me a friend request on my Wii U, my Nintendo Network ID is Jorf-Jorf. Have a great week!
