Things X 5 – December 17, 2012
With Christmas only a couple of days from now I will take a short break and be back on January 14 with even maybe some new things. Until then, here’s how I will likely spend my gaming time during the holidays. See you back in 2013 and happy holidays to you all!.
ZombiU (Wii U)
My perception of ZombiU went from an awkward game to one of the best video games I’ve played in recent years. Even with all its quirks it could end up being my most played game during the holidays. Seriously, I might even write a whole article just about it.
New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U)
I’m at the moment I prefer the most in the NSMB series which is, after initially beating the game, chasing down all the Star Coins and finding the hidden levels and exits. One rule though: No guides, no FAQs but maybe a little Miiverse to help me get through the challenge. The game is without a doubt the best NSMB title so far, one that could even hold the Super Mario Bros. 5 title.
Paper Mario Sticker Star (3DS)
I’m really enjoying Paper Mario Sticker Star, way much than I thought I would after reading some of the mixed reactions for this new entry. The pacing is nicely fitted for a portable game, the stickers mechanic works well and is quite fun and I’m really enjoying exploring the levels. The various “things” Mario finds, from car batteries to bowling trophies, are hilarious. But, beyond everything, Sticker Star finally resolves one of the major problem I had with the series so far: it finally looks like it is made of paper and the characters even acknowledge it (which I think it is a first for the series).
TimeSplitters Future Perfect (GameCube)
My bother and I will most certainly gather for 1 or 2 gaming nights and TimeSplitters Future Perfect will likely be at the top of our selected games. But, it could also end with a very long and serious session of Wii Party or with another one of our classics, Zelda: Four Swords.
Yakuza 4 (PS3)
Dear Yakuza 4, I know I’ve abandoned you on already two occasions; the first time because I couldn’t get into that second character you introduced (but that turned out to be okay) and the second time because as I was really getting into it and dating several Kamurocho hostess girls, I got my Wii U and left you once again. But I promise I will get back to you during Christmas time. You might be all violent and overdramatic, but you’re a damn fine game.
