Hello Player 1
A couple of weeks ago, Valve’s PR department teased us with a Portal-themed surprise to come at E3. I expected something mild, maybe some feature announcements. What I didn’t expect was for the company to completely reverse their stance on the PS3.
On stage at the Sony conference, Gabe Newell announced a commitment to solid PS3 releases of their games, starting with the upcoming Portal 2. The PS3 version of Portal 2 even goes one step further than the Xbox 360 version, offering complete Steamworks support.
This means that the PS3 version of Portal will include the same patches, community features, cross-platform saves, and downloadable content as the PC and Mac versions. It also opens up the possibility of cross-platform multiplayer. Exact details are still forthcoming (Will content launch simultaneously? Will PC and PS3 players be able to play together?), but we’re pretty darn excited.

Cross platform gaming would be nice over 360-PS3, but would likely be problematic over PC-console…

From “The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels” and “…a waste of everybody’s time,” to sudden support and making it the best console version of Portal 2, and by best console version, I mean better than the 360 one.
Ah, Gabe…I still worship you and your company.
I wonder if the PS3 version will finally get those TF2 patches now?

Portal 2 on PS3 makes me happy. With this and Steam for mac, I’m all set to play Valve games where ever and whenever they may appear.

It was ridiculous for Valve to dismiss the PS3 in the first place, honestly. 35 million potential customers can’t just be dismissed because it’s a bit harder to program for.

I want to know what’s the deal behind this?
How much money did Sony have to pay? How many of the Sony engineers are working with Valve to make this possible and such
