Chime-In: Keyboards and Rock Band

Other than a brief infatuation with The Beatles: Rock Band, I’ve been done with the entire “giant plastic instruments” genre since a few months after Rock Band 2‘s release. I’ve just had enough. Sure, the games are fun, but come on – four Guitar Hero games in a year? The novelty wears off quickly.

So, being both sick of the genre and not a particularly huge Green Day fan, I completely ignored the Green Day: Rock Band demo that popped up on Xbox Live today. Thankfully, the rest of the internet had me covered. Seems that players are treated to a quick teaser for the upcoming Rock Band 3 upon exiting the demo, and right along with the typical instrument symbols is a little keyboard (well, it’s vague, it could be keytar).

Color me… mildly interested.

I am a sucker for songs with keyboard/piano parts, and people inevitably want to drag out Rock Band at parties, so this particular inclusion may be just enough to drag me back in. If the experience is even vaguely like playing the real thing, I’ll be psyched.

How do you guys feel? Are you still whipping out the instrument collection every chance that you get? If you’ve stopped playing the games, are keyboards going to reignite your interest?

Does anybody actually want Green Day: Rock Band?

Harmonix does things right, so I have confidence in them.

Well, the keyboard will have to be what, $79.99-99.99? And how will they create the high way since keyboards usually require more than one 5 “gems” at the moment? Will they dumb down things and make it as if the keyboard was a RB guitar?

Kinda dropped the plastic guitar after Guitar Hero 3 on Wii…haven’t played in a while.

I wonder if they’ll just make it a musical score and you actually have to learn how to play the real instrument. That would be nice, actually. I’ve been meaning to learn how to play the keys.

I seriously doubt that they’re going to make the back catalog of songs compatible with the keyboard. If that’s the case, there are many songs that would be epic on keyboard but are punished from being released too soon. Same with harmonies.

I’d love to be proven wrong, Harmonix.

Cool. STYX with Beauty of Eight better be on it.

Yeah what Raymond said. GH3 for Wii was the last one I bought. I played it obsessively but stopped caring so much, really. But at a party I’ll still show off a bit. I got a few nerdcore tricks to wow ‘em with.

It probably won’t be as hard as Keyboardmania.

I haven’t played any since a few months after RB2 as well… although I bought the dang Beatles game a few months ago cheap… I haven’t played it yet. I really wish that RB2 was just a patch for the original RB and wish that RB3 was also just another patch… I liked the whole RB as a platform not just a game… but now that RB2 came out… RB is useless (oh unless you want to rock out to the 2 songs that didn’t transfer…) I’m tired of music games thanks to Craptivision but Harmonix has been almost as guilty as putting out garbage to saturate the market too… ::cough::Green Day::cough:: Do people actually like Green Day?
