Cory Schmitz’s EXP [UPDATE]

*Update* So, it looks like EXP is finished up. To get your hands on a copy of the book you need to donate at least $15 via Kickstarter towards getting a mass-production run of the publication going. Fifteen bucks for 90 pages of art and interviews isn’t bad at all, especially considering you’ll always have the first print run of what looks like a very promising magazine. Plus, your donations now will also go towards another book project Corey’s working on, The Controller.

More information can be found at his website.

EXP (not exp.) is Cory Schmitz’s game magazine set to come out any day now and I want it very badly.

I first saw this a couple of days ago in the 4cr Flickr Pool and after looking around I’ve only been able to find a little bit of info and this statement by Cory about the publication:

The purpose is to reject the idea that a video game magazine has to be be comprised of reviews and previews of the latest games. It hones in on the gap between game magazines and design magazines, embracing the relationship between video games and artists. A big focus of the magazine is the experience games provide, and how that is a great inspiration for creative people to draw from.

I love the test print images that’ve been shared in the Flickr pool and I’m eager to see the rest of the content that’ll be available in the final magazine.

For more info on Cory and EXP, you can check out this blog post by Tiffany Chow or visit his portfolio site and blog.

Here are some more illustrations and photos of what to expect from EXP:

This looks pretty snazzy. I wouldn’t mind owning a copy myself!

A combination of my two loves: DIY publishing + video games. Heck yes.

Looks great. You guys should also try exp. since it’s a very good zine. I’ll be sure to give EXP a try as well.

Great Zine, looks like he really worked hard to make it. Where can I buy it?

Gold Panda: Right now Cory is raising money to get a print run of the magazine out, so with a $15 donation you can ensure yourself a copy. The post above has been updated with more information.
