Metroid: Other M – Gameplay Movie

A new video has been posted on the official Metroid: Other M website, this time featuring some actual gameplay along with new cinematic footage.

While still no further details were revealed, the video demonstrates a few examples of what we should expect in terms of gameplay like the transitions from semi-2D gameplay to first-person view, as well as morph ball to 3D movement in third-person and so on.

While this isn’t the Metroid Dread that so many have been requesting for the past years, it certainly is nice too see the Metroid series partially return to its root while keeping some elements from the very popular Metroid Prime series.

Head over to metroid.com, select ‘Movie’ to view the newly released footage and let us know what you think of this newfangled way of playing Metroid.

I’m digging it. I’ve missed the 2D Metroids ever since Fusion, and while I really enjoyed the Prime games, I felt like they lacked something. This crazy fusion might just be the very thing I’m looking for.

Totally seems to support all my wishes for the game so far, it looks intense and smooth enough to satisfy to the high speed elements of the side-scrollers and controls of Prime.

Hmm, did anyone else notice a suggestion of an aim assist while shooting in the third-person POV?

I do not like the look of moving with the d-pad. Nunchuck is more comfortable and gives more detailed input, plus you wouldn’t have to worry about turning the wii remote the other way every time you wanted to point at the screen.

Controlling with the d-pad seems to me a very strange decision.

This is the kind of video I wanted to see. I feel much better about the gameplay part of the game now.

I’m actually really happy to see that Metroid Prime elements were not completely abandoned, I mean I can see that there is a lot that has remained… like going into morphball mode… I mean it looks exactly like it was in the MP trilogy, and obviously the first person perspective is much the same (without moving obviously).

It was neat to see how you are also able to move in 3 dimensions, and that you can change that linear path based on what direction you were facing when you pointed the controller at the screen.

Anyways I’m really excited… visually it’s superb… all the HUD displays are even so nicely tuned… little pulses in the electronic displays, all these little details are beautifully animated.

So yes very excited!

Totally loving this! Can’t wait! I’ve been a huge fan of Super Metroid (and the original, of course), and I totally loved MP as well, so I’m stoked!!!

The thing I’m still wondering on is if while in the NES control mode is aiming auto lock or is manual. Because it seems the first-person mode is so you can explore more and aim at specific targets, while the NES is kind of like going through the level and auto aiming killing everything. Other than that it looks great!

Well, it looks nice. Other m is set chronologically between super metroid and fusion. So the metroid series is nearly complete. Metroid dread will probaly be set between mp3 and metroid II. Considering the fact that there is a story break between the two and the fact at the end of mp3, samus was being pursued by what appears to be sylux. my guess is that sylux probably makes a monster metroid called metroid dread, samus beats it and that is where metroid 2 picks up when metroids are deemed to dangerous to live. there might even be a second metroid hunters set between mp1 and mp2.
