PSA – Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business

As much as I hated the pre-rendered look of the old Donkey Kong Country games, I have to admit that that series had some seriously awesome music. So, I was pretty excited to see that OverClocked ReMix has finally released their epic remix of DKC2′s soundtrack.

The album, Serious Monkey Business, has been in the works since late 2007 and has involved a ton of blood, sweat, and tears on the part of the artists involved (including the game’s actual composer, David Wise, as well as Rare’s Grant Kirkhope and Robin Beanland). The end result is a melting pot of a bunch of styles, from trance to rock ballad, and the little bit I have listened to so far this morning is pretty interesting.

The remixed album is completely free, so go download it or go check out a preview.

[Update] Their site appears to be down right now, keep trying the link until it works.

Hmm, that download link isn’t working.

And wha…? The pre-rendered look of the DKC games… loved it! Those games and the memories of their hype and eventual release represent one of my fondest gaming moments. And the updated look of Donkey Kong himself was so awesome. Taken to it’s even awesomer natural evolution with DK: Jungle Beat.

But yes, to the point, the DKC series had some of the best gaming music ever. I remember putting in the code to listen to the music on the first game and just leaving my Super Nintendo on for hours.

DKC2 definitely does have the best music ever. Not sure why I haven’t looked for OC Remixes of it until now.

“Hated” the look? Are you nuts? It rivaled or eclipsed just about everything on 32-bit systems at the time. If you were around in 1994, it was an incredible advance in the depth of game graphics and animation. Shocking, even… and a lot of games today are lucky to match the visual and audio production values present in DKC.

I always loved “the look” of the DKC trilogy games and I still love it today!

And the music of those games, ahh the music. Its one of the greatest in the history of VG music.
And thats why I say thank you to you Serious Monkey Business.
Thank you for doing something amazing to the music from my top favorite DKC game.

Yep, DKC 2 is my favorite of the trilogy.
DKC 3 is the 2th.
And DKC 1 is the 3th.

@Ryan

I completely agree, few games even today can match some of the production values of the Donkey Kong Country games. By that I mean, not very many games are as pleasing to the eyes and ears as Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 are.

The fact that you can listen to any of the music from 1994 and not feel like you’re listening to something old and outdated is truly an achievement.
