I don’t see how Nintendo could be announcing DS2 before the 2010 Christmas season is over at the earliest. Why even release the DSi XL if they announce it earlier? Nintendo is smart about maximizing their profit, so I wouldn’t expect them to announce anything.

The only way that they *might* announce something is if Sony announces a PSP2. But since it looks like Sony is “re-debuting” the PSPGo! soon, Sony is also committed to not stepping on their own feet and introducing a new console before the holidays.

So yep, I think we will have nothing new for awhile…

We won’t hear anything from Nintendo about the DS2 until E3 at the earliest. The big N want’s to sell some DS XL before announcing the next version.

One thing I’ve noticed in terms of the 3D Mario games… could be coincidence or not… but I don’t know if anyone has noticed parallels to the original Mario games.

Super Mario Bros. = Super Mario 64;

Both set standards to platforming… one for 2D the other in the 3rd dimension.

Super Mario Bros. 2 (Doki Doki Panic Version) = Super Mario Sunshine

Both somewhat under appreciated offbeat sequels to the traditional standard that was set.

Super Mario Bros. 3 = Super Mario Galaxy

Polished platforming for both dimensions. Brought Mario back to what made him famous. Super Mario Galaxy references Super Mario Bros. 3 on many aspects (musically, airships, ect.)

Super Mario World = Super Mario Galaxy 2

Yoshi… need I say more? They’ve even shown clips re-using Super Mario World music in SMG2.

I just find it interesting to see history repeat for a new generation. I personally love it, whether it’s coincidence or not.

Either way though I’m excited about all this news! Cave Story is especially a big one!
