Hello Player 1
So, I was perusing a list of recently-revealed box art, and the entry for Tetris Party Deluxe caught my eye. A slightly-upgraded disc release of a WiiWare game is, sadly, nothing new. What is different is the list of supported peripherals.
Wii Speak? this is an online game, so that’s reasonable. Balance Board? I have no idea how that works, but the WiiWare version did support it. The really weird one is the Wii Wheel. What, do you spin the pieces around? I can’t imagine that being overwhelmingly fun.
Anybody in the know want to shed some light on this? Oh, and for those of you that tried the WiiWare version, is the Balance Board mode fun?

Haven’t tried the retail version, but my wife got into the Balance Board mode of the downloadable version. That said, I wouldn’t really recommend this version.
Don’t get me wrong. I love Tetris. I keep a GameBoy SP in my bag with just a copy of original GameBoy Tetris in it at all times. (!) I even got into Tetris DS in spite of all the weird additions like piece holding and eternal spin to keep alive. But all that said, I just have never gotten into the WiiWare version of Tetris. A) It’s ugly, which is a real shame coming after the beauty of Tetris DS. B) It just plays ~wrong~ somehow. I can’t explain it. It just feels wrong.
True Tetris fans, my advice is wait until someone else gets the Tetris license. The current license holders are just like the idiots in the 90s who kept trying to sell us on 3D Tetris or whatever, instead of extending the absolute perfection of GameBoy Tetris. The people who did Tetris DS basically got it. These guys don’t.

Could we have a link to this mystery list of box art? That sounds like interesting news too!

Who honestly uses all those control schemes!? If you want to play Tetris RIGHT and COMPETITIVELY, you use a damn Classic Controller.

What, no Wii Zapper support?

@carl
You should check out the DS homebrew version of Tetris: The Grand Master here: http://tinyurl.com/yaoz3bm
It’s terrific.

The balance board mode is awesome, but only as a joke. It’s also incredibly easy – even at the max level it never gets difficult at all, at least in the Wiiware version.
The Wiiiiill is probably just “supported” for a lame tilt-controlled mode. It’s just a plastic handle for your wiimote isn’t it?

PS Tetris Party the WiiWare game is great. I love it. I would never buy it on a disc though. I don’t see what they could add to make it worth it.
