Hello Player 1

Greg was awfully excited about Sonic the Hedgehog 4 this week, which I insist we all refer to as Episode 1 – The Phantom Repentance. And who can blame him, old school sensibilities with new graphics across all three platforms.
But no matter how good Sonic 4 might be, it just won’t have a caged Mario.
1up pointed this glaring omission out yesterday when posting about the original Sonic the Hedgehog 4, a 1996 hack of Sunsoft’s Speedy Gonzales on the SNES. And while Youtube verifies that we’re probably better off with whatever Sega has in mind, rescuing caged Mario’s is priceless.
Catch the video after the break.

Haha, not bad. Think I’ll still wait for the proper Sonic 4 though. :p

Not a bad hack actually. Too bad they didn’t make proper ring collection noise.

LOL..not bad! Anyway, finally Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will be coming out this summer. I’ve been waiting for this day since Sonic attempted the jump from 2D to 3D. I think Sega did a pretty good job this time.

Man, I have downloaded every SNES ROM hack back when I was eleven! I remember playing this! I also had the Speedy Gonzales cartridge (in fact, I still do), but I didn’t put it together until the second time I played the game because they don’t start Sonic 4 on the first level of Speedy.
Now if you want some real weirdness, track down a ROM of Somari, which is an NES game of Mario playing through Sonic 1!
