Metroid Other M Brings the Drama

I’m in shock here. The Japanese teaser site for Metroid Other M has launched, and it pulls the heartstrings like a soap opera. But in a good way, with a solo piano that just might put you in an emotionally compromised state. Seriously, I would have never guessed music like this would appear in a Metroid game, and while it now has me expecting some awkward Japanese sci-fi melodrama, I can’t wait. It’s nice to see (and hear) something different. You?

I soooooooo cannot wait for this one. I guess I haven’t this excited for a game since The Wind Waker… anxiously expecting the best and the worst.

I’m with I_AM_ERROR. This is my most anticipated game this year, yet I’m cautiously optimistic. The generic anime soft music in that teaser site has me even more cautious than before.

GAH! I don’t want a soap opera. I don’t particularly care about Samus’ “emotional” back-story. How does this translate into a traditional Metroid-style game? What does this have to do with what made Super Metroid so great? They should save all this anime-styled non-sense for anime, and leave it out of our action games.

Wait, I’m confused. Is that future or past Spira? At least Aran’s outfit is symmetrical. :P

It reminds me of the Metroid Manga, which was fairly good,
This game is conveying emotion, which is a great thing I feel, for this game will bring the series to new places, by mixing a great story in with great action.
They are just trying to give this series depth, rather than a regular old sci-fi shooter.
when you think about it, your still going to be shooting giant space pirates and collecting new upgrades, but this time around I’ll feel the anger and pain of loss, suffering that they’ve caused, and really get enjoyment from killing space pirates and whatnot

This game is definitely right up there for most wanted games this year, right behind Dragon Quest IX.

I’m afraid of the change to Metroid as well… but Nintendo KNOWS how much of a niche fanbase it has so they can’t screw it up too badly.

The music sent shivers down my spine, though.

I don’t see anything on this site that has anything to do with Metroid.

Very impressive! I can’t wait to see what Nintendo has in store for us with this one! :D

Keep the Other M updates coming as you get them, 4cr! They’re much appreciated! ^-^

Everyone is going to hate me fore this, but if you took out the part that says “Metroid” then the site could easily be mistake for Halo.

Samus shouldn’t become a well defined character. Not because I don’t want to see a childhood figure change, but because it works best for the series.

I’d much rather play a videogame than watch plastic dolls act out a cheesy movie. I’ll reserve judgment and hope for the best, but I really don’t want a “movie.” And I’ll wager the millions who are lined around the block for Super Mario 5 won’t be interested, either. We want video games.

What I really want is a new 2D game in the style of Super Metroid – dark, moody, silent, no dialog or cut scenes, no holding your hand to make things easy. Just drop you into the caverns of some dark planet and let you fish your way out. Ya know, Super Metroid! And I might also be thinking of Todd’s Adventures in Slime World, which is a close cousin.

Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Hmm… I don’t like where this is going, that really casts off a JRPG vibe to me.
