Hello Player 1
When I’m not busy creating audio-visual awesome with Vinnk, I still like to wax nostalgic (and occasionally poetic) about games.
Since everyone has Decade Fever, I started thinking back about all the great games I’ve played. A couple from the beginning of the last console generation really stuck out, and I set about figuring out why they stood apart from the pack. Then I wondered if any games of the current generation could stack up.
With games like Mass Effect 2 and Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands on the horizon, it stands to reason that we should take a look back at the seeds of these franchises, ensconced in an earlier arbitrary sequence of ten Earth orbits around the sun.
Here are the five games you should have played from 2000-2009:

Since it’s only touched upon in the video, here’s a more in-depth look at Mass Effect — perfect to get everyone geared up for the sequel later this month!
Did you play any of these games? Are there any picks with which you disagree? Want to hang me by the short hairs? Leave a comment!

I might have considered Psychonauts and Metroid Prime rather than the last two.
Huge fan of Mass Effect and Sands of Time

Man, seeing that tiny bit of Sands of Time footage really makes me want to play through it again. It was a really great game.

So… you missed Mother 3.

Man, I would be playing Mass Effect right now if my computer wasn’t having issues. (need to check the PSU)

I’m still hoping for another Eternal Darkness game.

Fable 2 and ODST? Howabout Sly Cooper or Ratchet and Clank? Maybe Shadow of the Colossus? You can’t get much more cinematic than a game that has almost no on screen indicators.

I liked ODST more than most seem to, but yeah, it doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near this list.
I also have to greatly debate this video’s, and the internet in general’s, brushing off of PoP The Two Thrones in favor of Sands of Time. True, SoT has the better story, but it’s almost criminal how people gloss over its HORIFFIC combat that you’re trapped into CONSTANTLY. Two Thrones has far better combat (that can often be circumvented altogether), better platforming, and a long reunion with Farah that captures a lot of what people professed to like about SoT. Yeah, the Dark Prince thing is kinda emo, but not nearly enough to warrant being grouped in with Warrior Within’s far more egregious peccadilloes, aside from the fact that his inclusion is totally redeemed by offering a well-realized alternate playstyle that gives a nice variety to the game.
…I won’t front, though, the chariot races *do* suck. They’re few and far between, though.

I think that list could have been stretched out a bit… The first two games are early 2000 and then the last are 2008-2009. What about everything in between?
It does make me wanna replay Sands of Time though. I’m currently going through last years Prince of Persia and having a nostalgialicious time at it.

no one needs to be told to play halo ODST, fable 2, or mass effect. i wish some more older games were mentioned, not games some people just got for xmas.
