Is it just me, or it that the longest game title ever?

I’ve been playing COD Zombies on my iPod for the past week during my lunch hour at work. While I’ve never touched its console big-brother, I’ve been enjoying the iPod outing quite a bit.

A friend and I have actually been playing the game over bluetooth, partially due to the wifi signal being so low in the lunch room and because there was only two of us. We could never get much further than the fourth or fifth wave, and we thought the game was almost impossible because we only had access to a rifle and a machine gun. The fifth wave would throw dozens of zombies at us and they would require more than one bullet to put down, so we would die pretty quickly.

The next day, my friend went up the stairs that we thought were useless, and a little info bubble proclaimed the achievement “Clear Debris”. He turned to me, and with a big grin told me, “Hey, we can go to the second floor!”. After doing so, we found some new weapons and a larger area to defend. New zombies would pour up from the stairs, but that wasn’t a problem now that we could use the sawed-off shotgun!

Now, we were kicking some ass! During that session, we reached the eighth or ninth wave and saw a path that would lead us to a new section in the downstairs region. We would usually just play one game during lunch, but we had to start another to go check out that new set of stairs. We quickly made our way through the first few waves on the main floor, just pushing far enough to collect the required points to clear the debris blocking the second floor and to buy that sawed-off shotgun. We then played through a couple of waves on the second floor - just enough for us to move into the new downstairs area. After analyzing that new area, we found an ideal defense nest. Enemies were coming down the stairs and the only two entry point were straight ahead from our roost. We lasted for eleven waves. One question remained - where was that flamethrower that I kept seeing in screenshots of the game?

The days crept by and it was soon Friday, the end of my work week! The objective - try to get the game working on the local wifi (letting us add another friend of ours who grabbed the game after seeing us playing all week). We started a three-player game, and made it our mission to find the flamethrower. After getting to the point where we were the day before, our new friend found a door that we hadn’t unlocked that linked the first and third areas together.

He promptly opened it, which in hindsight may have been a bad idea! That ajar door was simply a new way for the zombies to come in and eat our brains. Kinda makes the area harder to defend! So, we decided to run back to the second floor, where we noticed a red cabinet. Can you guess what was inside? That’s right, the flamethrower! I didn’t get to grab it, but my friend looked pretty happy to have it. Ultimately, we still ended up using the two available shotguns. They did more direct damage to the zombies.

My final verdict? Buy the game if you have friends to play with. Fighting zombies while in the same room as your friends is so much better than playing online or alone.

A final bit of advice - change your control option to dual joystick. All of the other settings really suck.
