Hello Player 1
I hadn’t quite settled in here when BlazBlue Calamity Trigger hit the shelves this year. I’ve earnestly meant to revisit the series since then, and odds are I’ll still make good on that intention. Better yet, there’s plenty of more for the series in the works, which means more chances to talk about the fighting game that seduced so many of us.
At the core of what I love about the series is the way the fluidity of characters extends naturally from their designs. With that in mind, I’ve got an opportunity to giveaway some of the artbooks that accompanied the game as a pre-order bonus, courtesy of Aksys Games. Hopefully we can get these into the hands of some fans who missed a chance at picking one up.
So here’s the deal. Leave us a comment on this post about which BlazBlue character is your favorite and why, for a chance to win. Everyone will have an equal chance to win regardless of where they live, and has until Sunday morning (November 22, 2009) to leave a comment – at which point I’ll randomly draw five winners.
Good Luck!
EDIT
Congratulations to our winners – (1)Ujn Hunter, (2)Alexander, (3)SpacyRicochet, (4)Eden, (5)Jason. Thanks to everyone who entered.

I am partial to Hakumen. Not only is he totally bad ass, but he has eyes in his shoulders. How awesome is that?!
He is also obviously inspired by SNK’s Last Blade series, which are great but relatively unknown amongst the gaming public at-large. It’s nice to have such a different character mixed-in with the obvious Guilty Gear carry-overs.

My vote goes to Rachel Alucard. 1) She’s a vampire, and I am partial to vampires. 2) She dresses in Gothic Lolita and that’s just awesome! Enough said!

My vote goes to Ryu. No, wait, Blanka. Yeah, that sounds good.
(Umm.. I’ve never actually played BlazBlue. I also don’t even think I can enter.)

I would have to go with Rachel Alucard, he alternate colors are pretty sweet looking, and the animations she had are just too cool. Also she plays some what like Dizzy from the Guilty Gear series which is a great style of play.

While Noel was an early contender, its looking more and more like a competition between Lichti and Taokaka for me, with a slight bent towards Taokaka.

Noel. *points upwards to picture* No further explanation is required.
Alexander on November 17, 2009 at 7:05 pm
My vote goes to Litchi Faye-Ling.
I don’t know why, but in every fighting game I play, I always tend to go for Chinese characters – especially if they are females. I play Chun-Li in every Street Fighter, Jam in Guilty Gear and now, it’s Litchi in Blazblue.

My favorite character hands down has to be Rachel Alucard. Yes she is a vampire and a lolita but that has nothing to do with my fondness for her. I just love her fighting mechanics. She’s a character that solely relies on her drive command for nearly every efficient combo. Heck, even manuevering around the field demands it.
In case you were wondering, her drive is simply to call upon a gust of wind that mobilizes you and your opponent. There’s a gauge controlling how many times you can use her drive, so there’s sort of a fail-safe against spamming. She just seems approachable and balanced, but there’s still a lot of depth behind her set-up.
Oh and being a self centered brat doesn’t hurt either.

Nu or Taokaka.
Cyborgs and cat-likes rock

hmmm…might go with Noel but it’s close. While the characters probably started from some archtype, they get some sort of twist to make everyone memorable and unique looking.

Bang Shishigami, the cool looking vigilante who makes money and beats people up!
Squirll on November 17, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I really like Rachel Alucard. I think she’s the most fun to use. I like to fly off the top of the screen.

Carl Clover. Not only is he (in some ways) an underdog, but he’s also totally nuts! That’s a character I can get behind!

Bang Shishigami. I mean, you want to talk about an Underdog? Yeah, he’s it.
You know, and so the game tells you that you’ve lost, but rest assured that you’re still actually the winner, just because you’re Bang.

I love Taokaka’s grin. Whenever I see it, I can’t help grinning back like a maniac.
(It’d be amazing to get the art book, since we only very rarely get pre-order bonuses in Australia… [the last one I got was a badge with pokemon gold version.])

Jin would have to be my favorite – I love his calculating demeanor, his control over the elements, and his single minded obsession with pursuing his goals.
I also love the fact that he’s a twist on the traditional good guy gone bad stereotype – without spoiling too much for anyone who may be reading here, I have to say that I absolutely love the fact that he is, psychologically speaking, the most complex character in the game.
EdEN on November 18, 2009 at 12:59 pm
Definitely Rachel Alucard. The animation in the game makes her look even better than still pics do. Her fight still also feels unique to a degree and makes using her properly somewhat of a challenge.

Arakune has to be my fav. He’s the the kind of character you’d only find in an Aksys game. His fighting style is original as it is grotesque. Also his whole bug summoning gameplay is very hard to master, and far from broken. Oh, and he has some sort of realtionship with Litchi. That instantly make him badass.
Also BEEEEEEEEEES!
Ujn Hunter on November 18, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Rachel Alucard is my pick too! It might have something to do with the Darkstalkers fan in me.
@Jason: I just recently imported the Last Blade 2-in-1 collection for the PS2!

Ridiculous. How can there be so little Noel luv?
introverted cute girl + dual pistols = winning combination. Just listen to her taunts (jp). Cute enough to blow your nutbladder out your mouth. And that is an exposed back to die for. BURUUMU TORIGAA!
Awell, more for me >:3

Taokaka FTW!!! She’s definately mai favorite character with how mysterious she is. Her clothes keep her face hidden, and somehow hide all sorts of ‘claws’…but I most of all I love her dense and adorable personality, and that crawl she can do!

So far I’m liking Taokaka but Arakune is also a contender. BlazBlue is one of those games I’m going to keep coming back to over the years.

Noel, for being cutie-liscious! Yeah I said it.
Jedijoe9 on November 21, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Noel…mainly because those pistols are so awesome.

Taokaka is the best one. Catgirls for the win! Noel is close second.
