Konami released some art to profile the characters in their upcoming Wii release - yea yea it’s hitting the PS2 and PSP too, at a later date.
Short, sweet, and to the point, you can see them after the break.
I’m saving most of my words for when the game releases, but I noticed these images floating around the net earlier, and thought they might look nicer without the big IGN logo in the corner.
Enjoy!

I’ll go ahead and say it then. These are awful. Not the technique mind you that’s professional enough, just the redesigns. Why they needed to even remake the first one is beyond me. It’s one of the few games that ages really well, because the graphics being blurry at times helped it. Things are alot creepier between the music and the fact that you just don’t know what you’re looking at sometimes. That’s a bit off topic though. Just what the hell is up with Dahlia? Teenage Goth? How? Why? It’s like they want to kill the series.

Good stuff. Really like the backgrounds, especially the hidden eye in the Michelle one. (intentional?) Cheryl’s almost reminds me of a Rockwell. All the redesigns look fine, except Dr. K looks a bit too obviously evil, I don’t really like that one. Still, looks promising.

Seriously, why did they turn an old creepy woman into a young hot blond?
And why is Cybil a brunette now? I really thought her short blond hair and her tacky but not overly dramatic old highway trooper outfit were her BIGGEST signatures. Her new look makes her distinctively plain.

Oh come on. You fanboys will complain about anything! Its a retelling not a remake, if you want to play SH1

Oh come on. Fanboys will complain about anything! Its a retelling not a remake, if you want to play SH1, this isnt going to shit on that game for you, because theyre changing way more than just the characters. On that note though, I hardly think the colour of the hair of a sub character *really* matters…

It really depends- I’m not impressed with the redesigns either and I am A) a woman and B) a long time fan of the entire Silent Hill series.
Regardless, The visual representation is a very large part of a familiar game- whether it be a remake or a retelling. It’s like going into a town you grew up in and realizing everyone you knew switched names with each other. The charachter redesigns almost seem as if the game will be disorienting (and not in the good way) to people who have played this game before enough to remember the charachters.
I for one, am a visual learner and in being so visual consistancy is actually extremely important. I like stories that I know because of the charm I’ve associated with them. If the aesthetic changes don’t matter (no matter how large they are) then wouldn’t making a visually based game be rather redundant? It would be like making a whole new game, new charachters and new places- but just using vaguely the same plot. Is it just me or does that concept hit a fairly sour note? A good story retold or remade should stick at least in the ballpark when it comes to the large familiar parts of the story it’s going off of- especially when the primary storytelling ‘device’ is through visuals.
I was excited for this remake because the first few games in this series were my favorites, but if all these drastic changes are infact there then maybe I’ll just wait to rent it instead.

Okay the reason (this is what i heard) they look so over sexed, like dalia, and cybil is just as james, harry has issues wuith sex, thats why im guessing it switches from Reg Cybil to hot cybil, Harry is getting Psych Evaluation! i know that for sure, and judging on the players action affects the psych eval.

Nari’s a retard; her analogy is inaccurate, since this does absolutely NOTHING to remove the first game from existence; if any of you don’t want to play it, just skip it.
It’s more like if you discovered your hometown was copy/pasted somewhere else.
