I love these gaming ratings boards. Sure, they can be a hindrance, especially in countries with strict censorship laws. However, if you listen closely, they’ll occasionally let a few surprises slip out before the publishers are ready to reveal them.
In this case, it seems that a version of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney will be hitting the Wii in Europe. The listing obviously doesn’t reveal many details, but from the name and artwork, we can assume that this is a port of the original game and not a new adventure. I guess it isn’t all that strange of a concept; the series was ported to the PC last year, so high-res assets do exist. It is probably safe to assume that this is a WiiWare release. Unless there is some sort of new content, a disc release would be retail suicide.
Of course, the mind boggles when I ponder what Wii-specific features they could throw in. I’m not talking about such minor things as voice acting and cleaner artwork! I would buy the game again just for the opportunity to thrust the wiimote at the tv and hear a shout of “Objection!” echo from the remote’s speaker.

Was the PC version actually in a higher resolution? I think it was just a straight GBA port.

I don’t think a disc release would be retail suicide. In fact, quite the opposite. If they price the game at $25 or even $30, Capcom will have the opportunity to reach a much larger consumer base than if they distributed the title as WiiWare alone. Not everyone who has a Wii has it online.

As a big fan of the series (currently finishing the 3rd one while holding on the Apollo Justice) it would be weird for me to play in front of the TV. But, if it’s not remakes and brand new cases, than I’m happy happy..

It might be a tight squeeze for WiiWare. In order, the four DS Ace Attorney games use 64 MB, 32 MB, 32 MB, and 64 MB cards. The first one larger than the next two presumably because of the extra stuff added over the GBA version. Not sure how much is unused space on each, but with WiiWare’s ~40 MB limit it’s pretty tight, especially if anything were improved.

I think this would work best as episodic content on Wii Ware. I don’t see a disc release being such a good idea, and the idea of playing this game infront of a screen seems like a downgrade from having the portable.
Though if the game were broken into segments in the fashion of TellTale Games’ success, I think it would be much better for it. 3-5 hour bursts infront of the TV makes more sense to me for the series rather than seeing if people will want to plow through 25 or so hours of reading infront of the big screen.
