Don’t fear Rebels, this isn’t the start of some horrible new feature. Buried underneath the usual mountain of press releases, there just happened to be announcements for two titles that grabbed my attention today.
The first isn’t much of a surprise, since we already knew XSEED Games was bringing the tri-Crescendo RPG Fragile to North America eventually - heck you can catch ancient video reviews for the Japanese release. The game is still scheduled to hit shelves here in early 2010, but has received a small title adjustment, so you’ll now be picking it up under the extended title of Fragile Dreams: Farewell Ruins of the Moon.
The bigger announcement I’ve been waiting for came from Atlus, letting us know that Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey will be coming to the DS here for Spring 2010. I’ve had some bad experiences with launching franchises into space before, but I can’t deny my love of sci-fi and games with SMT in the title. Atlus sent along a few screenshots, but this Japanese video I’m going to stick in after the break might be more helpful, seeing how it shows the game in motion.
My favorite bit of news about the game so far is the ability to negotiate with demons again, over 300 of them apparently, bribing or coercing them to join your party.

I usually hate first person exploration, but I LOVE the SMT series and pretty much any scifi crap.
I hope Atlus throws in a heap of bonuses for this like they have been for every other game.

@JHGD - I think it’s a good direction to try some news ideas now that Persona is so popular and perhaps fixed in one direction. That said, this could end up being the strangest game ever. On the plus side I tend to stick with RPGs more on my DS versus console.

Shin Megami Tensei: Dead Space?
Finally at the end of Devil Survivor, so the wait for this one won’t be quite so bad. (and I still have yet to play FFIV and Valkyrie Profile DS)

I have yet to try a Shin Megami title - I know, I know… Shame on me.
I’m really curious about Fragile. I will probably get it. I think Xseed is doing an excellent job at bringing Jap titles over here and I’ve done my job supporting them this years with Little King’s Story, Korg DS-10 and Retro Game Challenge.
@Jamie Love
Could you post a nice video review of Fragile ???

@i_am_error - I’d love to. I think the game is absolutely beautiful, with a remarkable color palette - it feels like a game that really would make you lonely while wandering the empty streets, and that much more thankful when meeting characters.
XSEED has definitely been bringing over great titles, Fragile and Sky Crawlers are at the top of my list. I just hope they don’t get crushed underneath all the titles that were pushed back into early 2010. I guess we’ll just have to shout about them that much louder when they get here.

if they fix the bad controls and the dull gameplay for the north american release, fragile could be an excellent nintendo wii game. but i know that’s not going to happen. this game is going to get murdered when it gets reviewed.
oh. well.

Why do video game titles have to be long and corny? Why couldn’t it simple have been called “Fragile”?
