Reasons to Learn Japanese – PSP Edition

I’ve heard that both Valkyria Chronicles 2 and MGS Peace Walker will be getting more demo treatment next week in Japan – I just got around to trying the TGS demo for MGS a week ago actually. I’m also unclear on whether Valkyria’s demo is brand spanking new or not, but it’ll be new to me either way.

These are the two PSP titles occupying the most real estate in my brain right now. Despite fighting with the controls at times, I loved Portable Ops and remain optimistic about the final control scheme for Peace Walker. As for reasons for wanting more Valkyria Chronicles, well all I can think to say is, it’s Valkyria Chronicles!

This will once again force me to put my broken and primitive knowledge of Japanese to the test, essentially faking my way through it like a champ, at the very least getting a sense of how the gameplay is shaping up. While I’m not sure how many of you will join my in that endeavor, it seems worth mentioning. You totally should though, we’ll get together after and talk about it all over coffee.

What also seems worth mentioning is word that Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Plus, and Metal Gear Solid Bande Dessinee will all be hitting the download catalog for Japan in November. Should Konami decide to do the same with those titles here, I’d appreciate it.

I remember playing the Captain Tsubasa games on a Famicom clone (Family Game) when I was a kid, trying every single option and then writing down what they do.
That was almost 20 years ago, now I don’t have the patience to do a thing like that anymore.

@Dago

I think it’s kind of funny that people think we gain more patience as we get older, but as we get older, we refuse to do things like that. Like short of Contra, there are no games where I will sit and play through over and over to beat.

Exactly, now I’m on my 30′s and I almost never finish a game, I really enjoy them, I read and write about them, but I can barely squeeze a few hours a week to actually play them.

Sigh… Maybe when I’m 65 instead of growing a garden or something like that I can sit and finish all the games I collected over the years.
