Hello Player 1

On the off chance you haven’t heard of the game yet, Pieces Interactive’s Fret Nice is built around the concept of allowing XBLA and PSN gamers to play through a platforming title with a guitar controller – I’m under the impression that means any guitar controller you already own for either of those two systems.
I’ve had absolutely zero hands-on time with the game so far, which leaves me with little to offer on how well that idea will work. But, it also leaves me able to imagine that this could be a very interesting game when it releases early next year.
The visual style caught my eye back at E3 – slightly askew of the norm, almost like paper cutouts visiting Tim Burton in Japan. Add to that a story detailing the adventures of an indie pop rock band, and I’m digging it so far.
As for what it all looks and sounds like in motion, all I have to offer is the trailer from TGS, along with some screens, after the break.
Update – I posted about Fret Nice because I happened to be talking with someone this morning about how much I wanted to try it, and 4cr seemed due for a mention of it. Some of the images were pre-TGS and/or grabbed from around the web, and Tecmo contacted me to offer up the assets from TGS09, also letting me know that the logo and UI in older screens was different from the game now – so images below the break have been updated.
Incidentally, in all that digging I did find the video for the game from 2007, which as one quick commenter pointed out, does look dramatically different from the visuals of the game now, and you can check that out here.

Hmm… what is this? This isn’t the Fret Nice I got accustom to back in 2007. It seems to have gotten a complete graphic overhaul, and the character they introduced to us with the black hair and green sweater seems to be missing… I’m not sure what to think about this.
