I admit, I’m a sucker for any game with an original concept. I’m automatically twice as interested if that concept has some sort of musical bent. This pretty much makes Maestro! Jump in Music a must-buy for me. This “musical platformer,” developed by Pastagames and published by Nekoware, is supposed to hit both the DS and iPhone later this year.

We don’t have much info yet, but we can glean certain things from the trailer (which is embedded past the cut). The basic concept seems to be a cross between Mario and Elite Beat Agents. Your character moves from left to right on their own, and you control them by manipulating the environment in tune with the music. If you strum on a string, the little bird will jump in the direction that you flick. Tapping on enemies will “beat” them down. You have to spin the black holes to escape their gravity well. One of the video descriptions also mentions that blowing on the screen will have a gameplay effect.

It’s certainly a unique concept, and it looks and sounds fantastic. Hopefully this French-developed platformer will make its way to other countries. Click past the cut to see the trailer, a seven-minute gameplay video, and a few screenshots.
