@Sam - I know, unfortunately anything like that made for television is expectantly glib on the details.

How come everyone always mentions the no EA support but not the immense Capcom support?

If the Dreamcast was much quieter and had a completely redesigned controller I think it would be close to perfect. Calling it perfect as is would be a bit of an exaggeration I think.

I did definitely have a lot of fun with my Dreamcast though, and am sad it had such a short lived run. I guess I'm even more saddened that I'll likely never get to play the final chapters of Shenmue.

While I did enjoy a number of titles for my Dreamcast I think people often look at the console with vastly rose tinted goggles.

Rarely mentioned are the massive hardware problems the console had. While I was lucky in getting a near launch console that never had problems (in fact mine still works) a close friend went through 4 DCs (store returns) before giving up for a full refund.

Some titles mentioned previously were quite good, but some that are still held in high regard were utter disappointments Shenmue being the chief among them.

2 things killed the Dreamcast: 1) Lack of 3rd party support; and 2) not having a DVD drive.

Oh, man. Right now I REALLY feel like trying to find some places where sailors hang out.

Oh, and, uh, this looks like a good place to practice.

Also, that driver was insane.

The Dreamcast still is my favorite console - I'm playing Bangai-O and Mr Driller once a week.

Not to forget Soul Calibur, Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis, NBA2K, Chuchu Rocket, Jet Set Radio and Rez.

Great hardware, perfect size, great controller and fantastic arcade-games - SEGA at it's best !!! It's really sad it wasn't a success !!!

i'm not sure touching is a word i would use to describe it, but it reminded me what a brilliant library dc had in such a short span. power stone, jet set, vf, shenmue, crazy taxi, skies of arcadia, soul calibur... i remember all these despite never owning a dc! those sega people are complete whores for that company though

My husband gave me a Dreamcast with a necklace inside the CD tray for our very first Valentine's Day (back when we were dating).

That was almost seven years ago...and we've been married for four.

Geeky girls are out there, guys, and love stuff like that. The 10th anniversary of the Dreamcast is going to be a very celebrated holiday in our house.
