EA’s Grand Slam Tennis should be available in stores today and I’m pretty excited. I love playing tennis and I love playing tennis on the Wii. However, reviews of the game are varying wildly from site to site. They all point out that the game, being the first in a new franchise and a first with MotionPlus, is a little rough in spots. But IGN loves it. Eurogamer, who I generally agree with, hates it.
So what do you guys think? Are you going to be picking up the game? I’m pretty sure I will be picking up what looks like the first game in what is sure to become a very fun series. Or should I wait for Virtua Tennis 09?

Im picking it up on friday. I think the next one will be the best one or at least halfway there. EA have a habit of making almost good sport games and tweaking it with every sequel.
Im mostly dissapointed by the the lack of a career mode by the sound of things. Just four tournaments? You cannot be serious. Pros may play for slams but they still play in the master 1000 tournaments. I bet the PS3 version will have a fleshed out career mode. If the next one doesnt I will boycott it happily.

What about Virtua Tennis 2009? Any love for that?

is nike a sponsor?

EA stays true to licensing. Nike and adidas sponsor most of the top players. Hence a lot of Nike ticks floating around. Look at Murray or Roddick and they fred perry and lacoste respectively.
Not really liking what I see from VT.

I picked it up yesterday and played for a couple of hours with MotionPlus, and I’m hooked. I only played using the nunchuck to control player position which is a bit tougher, but hopefully more rewarding.
Racquet control seems much better during actual games vs practice sessions with the ball machine - it’s a lot less jittery during games. But actual games are fast-paced and I’m still getting the hang of moving the player, setting up the shot, and executing it to get the desired result in a brief time. I’m fairly sure the mistakes I made were mostly me not positioning the controller properly during follow-through of the swing.
Graphically, I think the game is really attractive. Nice attention to some of the details. In all, it’s by far the best tennis video game I’ve played…
