Hello Player 1

Microsoft announced 3 new social channels for the Xbox 360 last week at E3. Twitter and Facebook, which you can see after the break. But also last.fm, and until now we hadn’t seen any interface for last.fm.
Joystiq has more pics for your viewing pleasure.

Kotaku has more pics of the twitter and facebook channels.
So what’s your opinion on this? Is it a good move on Microsoft’s part, will you use it on your 360? or continue using it on the PC? At least this should put the Xbox chatpad to good use.

i hate twitter and facebook but i understand i’m in the minority and most people will probably love this.
Didn’t they show what the last.fm thing would look like when they announced it? I coulda sworn they had a short little video of a guy scrolling through radio stations.

All I got from that part of the show is that I adore Felecia Day. Poor Penny.
Anyway of those I only use Facebook. But in recent months my use has gotten so scarce that I can’t imagine wanting it on my 360. For the other two, last.fm seems like it would be a possibly cool addition. Twitter I’ve been considering using for the past couple of weeks, but I don’t know if I’d like that on the 360 either.
But they’re all free, right? Can’t really beat them either way.

@MISTERSMITH – Exactly, they showed something while Felicia was on stage?
haha.
also, for games that will support it, you’ll be able to add screenshots to to facebook from your 360.

I would probably use the Facebook channel, but only sparingly.
Do these extra channels cost money? I’m new to the whole 360 deal. This does all look very nice, though.

Come on 4cr, get down to posting about Nintendo, comics and all that cool stuff you used to some time ago.

@SARAKIN – Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. Facebook and Twitter are the most useless wastes of time I have come across in the last 10 years. Why they appeal to people, I will probably never know.

@CHRIS – Have you not been paying attention to the last week? Nintendo posts aplenty. Furthermore, Last.fm streaming onto a console IS cool stuff.

XBOX Media Centre has done that for a while though

Does anyone know if you will be able to use last.fm during gameplay? I’d like to listen to something else besides IN-DE-STRUCTIBLE while playing SF4… -_-;

Unless it is integrated into the OS so you can send & receive messages mid-game then I just can’t see the point of a Twitter channel on the 360.
It will probably take about 2 mins to fire it up from scratch…
Last.fm on the other hand… that’s pretty cool. Being about to tune into a channel and have it play music via my sound system is something I might use.
Facebook… maybe – I can imagine browsing friends photos and updates would kill some time.
Hmmmmmmm – the 360 could offer so much potential but delivers 3 so-so apps.

Totally agree with the last two posts. I tried using tracks from Third Strike, it was ok but the integration still too cumbersome. When I first read the “own soundtrack” hint on the package, I thought you could set the game to use replacement files. (I was new to X360, SF4 was the system seller.)
