I’ll be honest, I didn’t pay attention to this game at all during the E3 hoopla. I haven’t been excited about a Final Fantasy game since number 9. And FF 13, with its stereotypical characters and sure-to-be overly complex fighting system, holds no appeal to me. But Crystal Bearers is more of an action game; think Final Fantasy meets Force Unleashed. And I may be way off base, but I’m getting a bit of a Sin & Punishment vibe too. Sweet. The only disappointing part is that with the Wii we finally have a decent system to go online with, but this is only a single player game. Still, for the first time in years I’m excited about a Final Fantasy game.

I’m actually in the same boat as you… Crystal Bearers is honestly the first Final Fantasy game I’ve been excited for since probably Final Fantasy 8 actually… although I’d say 9 was good to in it’s obscurity.
After that Final Fantasy’s followed a way too systematic pattern… I mean it’s way to predictable for the theme to be about some corrupt government/hierarchy/religion… blah blah blah… and to have the complex but oh so amazing battle system that makes them cutting edge… oh and that they have cinematic’s that are so life like and highly detailed.
In fact I’ve found that over the years artistic design, and creative style in Square Enix games (especially the Final Fantasy series) is all so much alike it’s not very interesting at all. The newest FF looks incredibly dull… really resembling FF Advent Children except starring a female protagonist. The one SE game that I really enjoyed the art style in recent years was “The World Ends With You”.
Crystal Bearers so far is at least most different from other FF games. I mean a an already established Hero/Renegade, a battle system that is actually fresh and entertaining coming from a FF title, and so far I really am enjoying the art style… there are some modern stuff but something about the game still feels authentically almost medieval fantasy. I could talk loads about the FF series and SE in general in terms of the games they produce, but in general I’ll end by saying I have quite an interest for Crystal Bearers.

ugh…more square-enix/final fantasy crybabies. you people repeat the same generic thing about square-enix over and over again. it’s getting kind of old.

Square just needs to dump the final fantasy franchise and do something new. Where are the days of Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Illusion of Gaia(Enix).

Game doesnt interest me at this stage, i stopped being excited about final fantasy a long time ago. I really like the character design though. This guys chainmail hoodie in particular is pretty rad. http://bit.ly/11UVGU

So I’m not the only one who sensed a little bit of Sin and Punishment in there, that’s awesome. I’m mostly following it because he seems to have psychic powers, which naturally means it’s going to be a classic just like Psychonauts, Earthbound and Mother 3

This one really caught me off guard, and I’m way more excited about it than I thought I’d be. I’m thinking a definite purchase.

Wow, I only count 4 belts on him. That’s a vast improvement in squares character design.
