Finally! After hearing that Miyamoto showed some artwork for the next Zelda game during his roundtable we finally get to see what Miyamoto was describing as Link at his most mature yet. Not a lot of details to be gleaned from this poster, but it’s still pretty. Check it out and dream of this new Zelda game from Retro. I kid, I kid. Or do I?

It should be noted that there’s several key interesting features going on in the art piece. First is obviously that Link is behind this new character… who resembles the Queen of the Fairies, or a Great Fairy from Wind Waker actually.
Another interesting thing I noticed was the logo was done in a blue/silverish colour… which may be nothing but looking at all the console Zelda’s only TWO games have ever had different colour titles. Majora’s Mask (purple), and Four Swords Adventure (green).
I just thought it was an interesting choice. I’ve often felt that Zelda’s that don’t have red titles to be more of off shoot games, or new departures in the series. So who knows … I just like reading into things.
Of course there’s also the obvious “master sword missing” aspect of the art that was already discussed. Or sword in general for that matter… symbolically it could simply mean this Link is more of a defender then hero. Perhaps even taking a bit of a back seat. In any case enough theorizing from me. Awesome piece of art in general though!

@ TheMaverickk; Good points. I like the way you think. Definitely made me look at the artwork again and dream of the possibilities.

I was wondering about her resemblence to the Master Sword. That, combined with Link’s lack of a sword…hmm.

Whoa Mistersmith.
At the same exact time with different links to the same thing.
Does this mean we have to make out or something?
KLind - 06.05.09 2:17 am
Thanks for those links guys. I added it to the post.

While it’s interesting to offer that this new character may be the Master Sword incarnate, Let’s not forget that we did the same thing with Midna before TP came out. Granted, this one is slightly more convincing given the fact that the Master Sword isn’t actually present anywhere else in the picture - His hand is blatantly empty. So, just something to look forward to.

ummm… guys? Look over Link’s right shoulder. This could be my imagination, but that building seems the reek of modern architecture. Please tell me I’m crazy.
Loki - 06.05.09 3:54 am
Uh, just like a brush stroke to me Loki. Don’t worry, you’re just crazy.

I think the living sword is probably one of the best most accurate theories.
I knew there was something vaguely familiar about her appearance and everything. I’d say that even if this isn’t her final appearance it’s a really solid guess to what they are planning on doing.
It also makes sense to have a game revolving around the Master Sword, I mean there is no real origin story for it, or how it came to be or how it was made… and how it is that it’s so powerful and great that it’s the only thing which can defeat Ganondorf.
Also since people are dissecting this image so much I should also mention that in Wind Waker the Master Swords jewel piece was black/dark coloured because it had lost it’s power to repel evil. It would explain why the girl’s jewel is blue and not gold like the master swords.
I don’t think the building is modern or anything, it actually just resembles like a hole in a wall or something… possibly a rocky pass.

I love how Zelda brings out the giddy fanboy in all of us.

Compare the “Mistress Sword” to this familiar face:
Fairy Queen
Remember, the Fairy Queen is “just his type.”

Link is a righty here.
SHENANIGANS
Henry - 06.05.09 6:18 pm
SHENANIGANS!! Where’s my left handed hero??
Jon - 06.05.09 6:54 pm
I don’t know why people is poiting so much at the absence of the sword. Remember that in ALL Link adventures he NEVER HAVE the sword from the beginning.
tito - 06.05.09 7:05 pm
Not sure if you guys notice, but she’s standing back to back with Link, and that’s where he would usually sheath his sword.
Edgar - 06.05.09 9:53 pm
@Henry- Maybe he’s still left-handed and figures to use his shield with his strong arm to make up for the lake of sword?
@Tito- Yeah, but he always has his sword in the artwork, which is what we’re looking at.

More interestingly, if you compare the hair on both Links in the comparison picture, you’ll find they’re different Links entirely.
Could this game star the Hero of Time?

They had something new going with Wind Waker and it was good. It made me excited and I still think it’s one of the best looking games I’ve played to date (art wise). The Twilight Princess, though still a good game, was a step back in my opinion. I’m sure this new Zelda will deliver, but I really wish they’d gone with the “new” style. But we’ll see

Yeah! another version of zelda

And midna is there!
Yeah! I cant wait anymore
And… Whats up with Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver??
Nico - 06.10.09 6:33 pm
i’ve been doing sum research and i found that the fairy girl person has the exact same design as the master sword and it’s kind obvious. and no offense, themaverickk, but i don’t think the jewels mean anything. also link is right handed because miyamoto mentioned a new zelda game with full wii remote movement control, since there’s that wii motion plus thing
