I am in love with the graphics in the upcoming Wii release of A Boy and His Blob. I’ve always been a fan of 2D art over 3D (which, as I was telling the other writers here, is why I liked old Disney better than new Pixar) so I get really excited whenever I see a 2D game that looks really good.
In recent years, Castlevania has reigned supreme in the 2D department, but A Boy and His Blob is looking to give that series a run for its money. The styles are very different, but the gorgeous backgrounds and fluid animation give this game a really fun kid’s book/movie feel.
I especially love the little things like the fireflies and vines.
[EDIT] Ok, apparently it’s not a Wiiware title, but it still looks awesome.

“Blooooob!” That’s so cute.

i dunno, that yelling would get really annoying really fast if you played this for more than five minutes at a time. i mean, i know they are trying to get a sincere kid-yelling-for-his-pet sound, but what they have instead managed to create is singularly grating. i would have to mute the game to play it, i think.
still a good looking platform puzzler, though.

I was surprised at how good the voice sounds. This whole game so far has been surprising. Cant wait.

WiiWare? No, I don’t think so… I think it’s published by Majesco.

It’s a full retail game, not WiiWare. I’m pretty sure it hits in the fall.
I love that there’s a button for “hug the blob.”

BLOOOOOB!!

Freakin Awesome! It’s looking better and better. A lot of the little graphical issues I had with the earlier videos are being fixed. You fall through the holes now (compare the old video “into the forest” to “use that blob”). The backgrounds are more active (clouds were parallel scrolling before but now they move even if you’re still, trees are swaying in the wind, fireflies pulsate, ect–).
I do hope they continue to improve so it knocks people’s socks off, but this is looking more and more a day 1 for me.
