I’m not sure if we have any TD genres fan out there, TD meaning Tower Defense, but today Vogster Entertainment announced a new game in the Robocalypse franchise for Wiiware and it will be a TD game instead of a real-time strategy like its DS predecessor.
This game will pit the Robots against Beavers in a hilarious storyline written by Jay Lender (SpongeBob Squarepants) and Micah Wright. You won’t just build towers, though. Robocalypse - Beaver Defense will give you control of a hero unit that you’ll be able to move around and deal damage where it hurts the most: The Enemy HQ. You can also use defeated enemy parts to apply upgrades, build new robots and place more towers.
The game will support online play (up to four players) in two multiplayer modes. “Last Man Standing” and “Best Defender.”

I’m quite happy to see that the WiiWare service is getting better titles.

Hah, Beaver Defense. Sounds bizzare in an awesome way.

I can’t wait for this title to come out!

Beaver Defense? That one is also sexual!

I love TD games. Wiiware will find it hard to compete with the iPhone in this category though. I’ve already got 4-5 great TD apps.
Having a character that can move around is cool. It makes me think of the great game Pixeljam Monsters. If they can replicate that kind of quality, I will be sure to buy.

Hero unit? Though a n00b to tower defence, I’ve just finished up the immaculate Locks Quest by fifth cell (drawn to life/scribblenauts) which does a similar thing, to my mind exceptionally well.

@Nick C - The Wii is not a competitor to the iPhone.

Yeah, that’s the DSi’s job. *SHOT*

This looks pretty good - the graphics remind me of KKnD on the PC in the late 90s. Still not overly sure about the TD genre though.
We talked about this on the games-and-industry podcast Visiting The Village this week - link in name.
