Adventure Island WiiWare video

I must have missed the announcement of Adventure Island for Wiiware, but here’s the gameplay video. For me, the Adventure Island series brings back so many NES memories — my friend and I would rent the games for the weekend and try to beat them. I don’t think we ever finished one back then, but it looks like Hudson will give me a second chance to beat at least one title in the series this May.

What are your impressions of the graphics? I’m with Kotaku on this one and think it should be cel-shaded. Also, you can read an interview with series creator Takahashi Meijin here.

Absolutely. Actually, there was a GCN remake in Japan that looked much better.

Something about Master Higgins’ animation seems a bit unnatural to me. It wouldn’t keep me from playing the game, but it would be one of those things that you keep thinking about while playing.

The game doesn’t seem to look that interesting to me. Graphics-wise it looks boring, and from the gameplay video, it doesn’t seem to be that interesting.

Graphics looks like Donkey Kong Country when it came out on SNES.

ZOMG YOU CAN WEAR PINK SHORTS!!!1

I think the graphics are kinda cool in a 1994 kind of way. Also, the bald guy at the end of that video is my dad. (Not really.)

On second though, graphically it doesn’t look terrible like I thought when I first saw pics, but I still agree that cell shading would do wonders.

I prefer the look of the original to this… Unfortunate that it’s too much effort these days to have people hand draw the graphics, cause traditional art looks so pretty in HD.
