Burnout Paradise Drops to Twenty Smackers

Although nothing official has come out of Criterion or EA yet, a bunch of retailers have apparently dropped Burnout Paradise to $20. Sure, this isn’t really breaking news and we haven’t turned into “Cheap Ass Rebellion” while your back was turned. So, why am I telling you all about the price drop?

I’m telling you about this price drop because this game is freaking awesome. Really, you should go pick it up. I don’t even like racing games all that much, but I had fun playing around on the streets of Paradise City. Don’t believe me? There is a demo available on Xbox Live (and I assume on PSN).

That not a compelling enough reason to blow a twenty? Criterion deserves the support for one other key reason – their stance on downloadable content. While other developers are charging ten bucks for a couple of new maps, Criterion has completely changed the core gameplay (and for free). These guys have added motorcycles and entire new multiplayer modes. They aren’t done yet, upcoming content includes a local party mode, toy cars, and “legendary” cars ripped right from the pop-culture zeitgeist. Not too bad for a game that has been out for nearly a year.

Buy it from Amazon: PS3, 360

Not to rain on the parade, but I’m fairly certain the legendary cars are paid DLC. Not that it matters, if it ends up being 10 bucks or so. If you take into account all the free DLC, paying for the legendary cars seems fair enough to me.

oooooh I always wanted to get it but at full price it was too much!

Mune on January 14, 2009 at 12:57 am

It has gotten a ton of good reviews (88% on GameRankings), and 4cr suggests it… what other reason do I need to get it? This will be the first racing game outside of F-Zero I’ve ever purchased. :)

Hmmm… I’m interested in this. While I’ve never been a HUGE Burnout fan, it’s generally due to the technical limitations of the systems I played them on (PS2).

GAH! No local multiplayer? For a racing game? Why do you do this to me?!

So many good racing games lately lack offline multiplayer (GRiD, PURE, Burnout Paradise), it’s infuriating for someone like me who LOVES offline multi.

But nobody likes you Evan :)

I paid $60 for Burnout Paradise when it came out a year ago and I thought it was a bargain then. Then it went to $30 and I figured everyone would buy it. But now, if it’s selling for $20, you guys would be insane not to buy this game! BP is the most fun, coolest, most amazing, addicting, polished and satisfying driving game I have ever had the pleasure of playing. It is an elite game among elite games.

now that EA has a contract with criterion I hope need for speed dont turn out to close to burnout. would hate to play NFS crashing into everything to win a race. thats why I have not bought any burnout games yet. I want to race and win not feel like Im in a crash derby game.
burnout is super!!! graphic’s is great I love that you can jump over ramps but the crashing I dont like.

YEAH!!!! who wants to play need for speed like burnout???
that would stink. I heard criterion is taking over making need for speed games from blackbox studio’s so, now hopefully we’ll see some great gaming now.

I’m a huge fan of Burnout Takedown / Revenge, but couldn’t get on with Paradise and consequently sold it after few hours of playing. In my opinion, Midnight Club: LA is – even though tough as nails – a far superior and fun oriented game. If only the engine would be as smooth as Paradise’s.

Still prefer the old Burnouts by a mile, though.

Yeah I think my love for Burnout stopped at #3. Though for whatever reason, I always thought #2′s crash mode was better than 3′s. Discuss!

It’s being discounted because the game is being re-released next month with all of the extra content.

The Ultimate Box version is the reason I hold off in buying all these games that tend to have so many downloaded stuff available. Glad I waited, not that it was one of those must have games I couldn’t wait to get.
