Hello Player 1

IGN has posted a rumor saying that DSi will be coming out in the US on April 4th at $179. Are the new features enough to make you fork over the cash and make the jump?
Personally, at $179 and with DSware, I think I’m in. Although I would prefer a real DS2.

Unfortunately I’ve always been pretty unimpressed with the DSi. It always seemed like a cash-in product more so than anything else Nintendo’s released in, well, as far back as I can remember.
As far as I can see, none of the features are very interesting or good for more than 1 novelty game or feature, and the design I think is actually worse than the DS, since the only change is a matte finish plus marring the clean body with the camera lense.
Prove me wrong, Nintendo, prove me wrong. But until then, my money stays in my pocket…

I will definitely be getting it. My DSL hinge broke about two or three weeks ago (and it’s been too long to get it fixed for free), so I am just waiting, without a DS, until the time Nintendo releases it.

I would love a DSi, too bad that I’m traveling to the US in March so I won’t be able to grab one.

I’m keeping my fat DS. It’s got the hinge broken on the right side, but that thing keeps on going.

It’s being sold at an Asian mall for $450 CAD.
Anyway, looking at it it’s got a lot of nice bells and whistles, but I probably wouldn’t use them and my DS is still in good condition.

Its enough for me. I can say that I am excited about the new features and the DSware. I mean the ability to play music is almost enough for me, that way I can get rid of worthless iPod.
The price isn’t that bad at all. $179 is relevantly cheap compared to the price that the DS was when it was first released back in 2004. It was about $150 then, wasn’t it. For the extra features, its a good price.
I also wanted to add that I still have the original DS and not the DS Lite, so it’s a much needed upgrade from my standpoint.

Got a DS Phat. Traded it in for a white DS Lite. Traded THAT in for a red/black DS Lite (First Lite died from over use). Will most definitely be getting a DSi, but this time, I will be keeping my current DS.

I want it, but unless if I can get a deal where I trade in my current DS for a fat discount for this I’m not interested.

I won’t buy a DSi because I don’t need music playback, opera, camera etc. I want a simple and portable gaming machine – that’s it.
And 179 US$ is too high in my opinion – but as always: if everybody will buy it, Nintendo will keep on doing things like they did it in the past.

I don’t know yet. The main thing that bothers me is the DSware and I’ve been unclear as to whether that’s DSi only or not. You think they could just update the firmware for that or something.

I traded in my fat for a lite and still have it. I also have a Phantom Hourglass DS lite (so pimpin). I don’t need another one.
But I also got Korg DS-10 and plan on getting a few more cartridges. So maybe I do need another DS. April 4 is right after my birthday, so maybe I will be lucky.

I’m really on the fence…
I’m still on DS Phat and would like to upgrade at some point… but honestly I don’t need most of the DSi’s new capabilities.
My phone takes pictures, my PSP-1000 plays Music and browses the web…
They’re going to really need to push those DSWare apps and games to get me in on it. Otherwise I’m going for a reduced price DSL in the future.
If you can convince me otherwise, I’d love to hear it- hit me up a email at ZaxCG2 (at) Gmail (dot) com.

I can’t wait. If Wiiware was any indication, DSware is gonna be fantastic.
So many haters on something they’ve never touched.

I’m totally getting a DSi. I love Nintendos.
DarkTide on January 14, 2009 at 3:59 pm
i couldnt justify this purchase.
technorchid on January 14, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Tony, it is probably DSi only. From what I understand the DSi has more built in memory that allows for the DSware. You can probably get it on a flashcard, but who knows?
Morne on January 14, 2009 at 9:16 pm
I’m gonna say definitely not, unless the dsware thing is really, really cool. Then I will wait for a price drop.

Getting less for more? Pass.

I’ll consider getting a DSi after it’s been out for awhile and it comes in a bizarre new color theme. Perhaps a Mario or Zelda version of the DSi, or something like that.
SunNightRaider on January 16, 2009 at 4:16 pm
I may be getting one but even if I do I’ll be keeping my current DS Lite due to a little device by the name of the ‘CycloDS’
Joe on January 21, 2009 at 2:01 pm
I’m not getting one, the new features are not enough for me to pay $179. The new DS is slightly bigger so its not practical as a music player. I read that the internet browser is about the same as the one they sold a few years back for the DS. I already have great 8mp camera thats smaller, plus the one on my phone. Some of the other software is cool but I’m sure to be bored with it quick. Also it dosen’t have the slot to play Gameboy Advance games. But if didn’t already have the DSL may consider waiting and getting it instead.

As rolls swell in the recession, workers find firms are contesting claims by alleging wrongdoing or quitting in a bid to not pay benefits.
