Jed is a fun little platformer created by MrPiglet. It’s a pretty simple game at first glance, but it does have a pretty cool innovation. There is a foreground and a background in each level and you switch between the two to save all the baby robots and beat the game. There are also little items, such as a jetpack, that you pick up for certain levels.

The graphics and sound are pretty nice, focusing on that “new-retro” style that Cave Story popularized. The game isn’t super attractive, but it’s simple and it works. The music is a little overbearing, but it’s epic and fun at the same time.

The game isn’t quite finished yet, but you can download the super fun preview version here.

I also wanted to mention two other deserving games this week. One is a really cool platformer with randomly generated levels, great graphics and music, fun gameplay, and a fun name: Spelunky!. This is definitely a game I’d pay money for on Wiiware. The other game is very different, it’s a FPS with very original, and cool, graphics. There’s not much in the way of gameplay, but the graphics and style in Gravity Bone makes it worth a try.
