Today at TGS, we got the chance to play some new Wii games, one of which was Kororinpa 2. Actually, it’s going to be called Kororinpa 2 when it’s released in the UK and Marble Saga when it’s released in the USA.

The basics of the game is that you are a marble that has to go through a maze, you collect crystals as you go and have to reach the end without falling into the abyss (which looks rather like sky). You can’t ever finish a track without collecting all the crystals but you can always go back.

I played this game with both Kevin and Holli and it makes a really fun 2 player game where you race each other to finish. You can choose your marble character which ranches from hedgehogs to UFOs, and you also have the option using your Mii character too. Each marble has it’s own characteristics such as speed and grip. The UFO is especially crazy because it’s not completely round and rolls all over the place at high speed!

To control the game you can use your Wii controller either in it’s usually way, (in one hand pointing at the screen) or turned 90 degrees and in both hands. The game also has several levels designed purely for the use of the balance board; they are less intense than the other levels because otherwise you’d fall flat on your face (apparently)! It sounded like it would work really well with the game style but unfortunately they didn’t have a board available at the show.

To play you have to hold the controller flat and tilt it in the direction that you want the ground to tilt, your marble will then hopefully roll the way you choose! The further you get in the game the more complex and narrow your path will be. We only had a few of the easier levels to play with but the finished game will have about 150 levels and many marble characters to unlock along the way.
I had a fun time playing this game, I didn’t play 1 player but I imagine it would be pretty good, however I think it excels as a 2-4 player game, it’s great to play with friends and you can change your options on the game so you can either have transparent marbles (so they can pass through each other) or solid marbles so you can bounce each other off the track depending on how vindictive you are!
I would recommend this game and a fun, light hearted game to play with your friends. If you liked Super Monkey Ball this game is for you!

The original Kororinpa is one of my favorite Wii games. It’s not highly polished, but it’s hella fun. Basically like Marble Blast Ultra but with motion controls. I’m really looking forward to using the balance board with this.

I’m glad that you can do play the game sideways. Banana Blitz was not very fun, mainly because you had to play the game one handed.
Anyway, this one sounds like a winner.

Cool. Looks a lot more polished than the original, which I rented from Blockbuster last summer, and actually beat. The controls took some getting used to, I remember (they were just a bit rough), but I held the wiimote cradled in both hands. It’s awesome that you can turn it 90 degrees now and hold it like Excitetruck!
