Hello Player 1

Literally anything, even arithmetic.
A lot of levels that people have made with the beta have been pretty cool. Take the huge Shadow of Colossus level for instance. That level has you go through a huge creature’s body, avoiding obstacles like stomach acid, neural impulses, and teeth. Oh, and the level is constantly moving accross the ground. But as awesome as that is, nothing has been nearly as amazing as the video after the break.

Yeah, it’s insane.

I’ve been playing the LBP Beta for about four days now. It’s so absolutely incredible! That calculator level is so crazy!

Holy flip, that’s a mechanical calculator?!? That’s impressive.
luet on October 7, 2008 at 3:47 pm
god i want this game so badly

The word “literally” is literally overused.
Can you cure cancer in LBP? Can you assassinate the president of Lesotho in LBP? Can you square a circle in LBP? If not, then you can’t do “literally” everything. The proper term instead is “a whole damn bunch of stuff.”

Just today I saw a killer LBP ad. I was walking to school and along the front lawn of the campus they’ve stuck mini billboards in the grass. They look like they’re made of aluminum, but there’s even a little ladder on the support beam, and little squares meant to look like lights. Totally genius.

I’m glad you can share things because I really doubt anything I make will be that special lol.

The word ‘amazing’ gets banded around a lot, ESPECIALLY on the internet.
That video is AMAZING. I’m not saying LBP is, although it probably IS, let’s be honest, but that level and the guy who created it are amazing!!

Looks wicked.

Been playing the beta with my roommate; it’s fucking hilarious and fun as hell.
Lemcott on October 7, 2008 at 11:03 pm
does anyone else notice the trend of crediting LBP for all these great ideas?
From news get: “Working Tetris in LBP,
So many great ideas are coming from this game.”
wait… tetris came from LBP?
no, it should read: “Working Tetris in LBP,
So many great ideas are being redone with this game.”

I bought a used PS3 today just for this game. I can’t WAIIIIT!
waltermh on October 8, 2008 at 6:57 am
so this is what passes for hardcore on ps3 now, but the wii gets lambasted for minigames and cute games.
its a sad time indeed.
Playing a calculator doesnt seem like much fun, but then i have yet to see a video that shows why this game is fun period.
Even that shadow of the colossus isnt cool. It looked like a weird platforming level that might have been interesting if it had some action, an ending with a reward, a point at all besides to wander around for no good reason at all.

holy… spit…

@WalterMH
Are you seriously comparing LittleBigPlanet to Imagine Babyz Party, Carnival Games, etc. etc. etc.
LBP is all about the customization and stuff. I can understand if you wouldn’t like the game if you didn’t like customization. Even I, who is looking SO forward to this game, realize that the platforming bits don’t compare to the likes of Super Mario Brothers or Megaman. But it’s not supposed to be either of those games, it’s a game where you let your imagination go wild and create what ever you want.
Also, I have no problems with cute games (I DO have a problem with Minigame collections), as long as they are good. Super Mario Galaxy was my game of the year last year, I really liked Dewy’s Adventure (except the maniacal last boss), I like Endless Ocean, etc. It’s not about being cute, it’s about being a GOOD game.

BAM! Rbel just shot you down.

waltermh didn’t even really need to be responded to. It seems as though he’s done nothing but look at the screen shot you put at the top of the article lol.
Tony on October 8, 2008 at 1:28 pm
To add to that: I’m not sure how anyone could watch the Shadow video and feel that it had no action to it. This was something a few guys did in a day. Imagine thousands upon thousands of people using this over a few weeks.

…Aside from a technical stand point, I wasn’t terribly impressed with the calculator thing. Again, technically it’s wonderful, but a level that’s sole purpose is to compute arithmatic? Eh.
Loved the Shadow of the Colossus level though. That’s awesome. If I had a PS3, I would get this.
Jake on October 8, 2008 at 2:34 pm
@oof! – Yes that level is solely for computing arithmetic, fine, but you don’t see implications here for surprisingly complex logic within levels? Having any sort of computational ability like that could potentially allow for slipping puzzles or mini quests into a level, if you really desired it. As a tech demo it’s pretty neat, but for what it reveals in terms of how far you can push the “intelligence” of the in-game tools, it’s potentially phenomenal.
Ben on October 8, 2008 at 11:13 pm
As psyched as I am for this game (something I have to admit, though don’t own or plan to own a PS3), I can’t help but feel as though it’s shaping up to be nothing more than a side-scrolling, watered-down, much more user friendly console version of Garry’s Mod. Jake, you bring up a great point in how complex and “intelligent” the in-game mechanics can be, and indeed they seem nearly limitless, but look at the sheer complexity of the build that guy had to go through just to create an addition/subtraction calculator that could go up to triple digits. Amazing yes, but tedious all the same. I doubt we’ll see many user created levels of this complexity, but who knows. Still, I can’t wait to have a go at it and see what I can come up with.
