Fun For Free – Jumper 3

Fun For Free is back this week with a real gem. Matthew Thorson has been making fun little platformers for a few years now, but this one is definitely his best. It combines the best of platforming with some cool puzzle elements into a great little package.

You control at least five different characters (there may be more, I haven’t quite finished the game yet) through more than fifty challenging levels. Each character has special abilties to help overcome certain obstacles. The coolest thing about this is that the levels aren’t necessarily built for one character, so you can get through levels a variety of ways.

Each of the fifty levels has coins to collect and a time trial to break to get a medal. Beating these times is no easy feat either. I have gotten past the fifty main levels in the game, and have only collected 4 medals. The coins don’t really do much except let you skip levels and buy hats, which don’t do anything but look cool.

The presentation is nice too. The graphics and music are simple, but they fit the game, and the menus are fantastic. The creator of the game, Matthew Thorson, always makes really great menus in his games, and this is no exception. Going through and selecting levels is quick and intuitive and better than most games out on the market, free or otherwise.

Jumper 3 is a fun little game with tricky platforming, slight puzzles, and most importantly, fun gameplay. I recommend it to anyone who likes the genre. I also encourage you to download and play more of Matt’s games from his site, especiall Dim, Jumper 2, and FLaiL.
