Heya folks. Look, it’s no secret. We all know that the 4cr frontpage has been a bit anemic lately, and we’re not ignorant to this fact. However, one thing that I’ve personally noticed is that when you just report the news and not focus on the laughs or the editorials, you sacrifice a great deal of the site’s personality. That’s why I’m starting up a little one-panel comic project called Rebel Bytes! I’ve really been focusing on trying to improve my comic-making abilities, and this might be the best way to get a little more practice!

Video game comics are in a weird place on the Internet, you know. Before, the loathing on the Internet was centered around the fact that game comics (such as, CTRL+ALT+DELETE) were way too stereotypical in their representation of gamers. Now, the loathing is beginning to drift further towards that meta-humor version of game comics where the punchline is invariably “VIDEO GAME REFERENCE” or something about how Portal is played out. Okay. Yawn.

So, every Tuesday afternoon, I’m going to post a one-panel comic about video games & game culture whilst attempting to avoid resorting to the usual, stale staples of game humor: “we play games all the time! too much in fact!” and “the usual staples are stupid as hell.” I want it to be unique, with equal parts innocent silliness and wry observation. I’ll try my best. I’m warming up with this one, but if i have anything to do with it, it’ll get better from here on out.

Stay tuned, rebels. We got some more original content comin’ your way.
