We all know the Ninty press conference sucked. It was clearly aimed at the mainstream media and grannies in their rocking chairs. But behold, thanks to Chris Baker over at Wired, we see what could have, and frankly, should have been. The beauty of this tongue-in-cheek re-imagining of the conference is that it’s not that far from being totally plausible. Ah, if only. This is how I will choose to remember the conference in my head from this point on.
Imagination Theater: The Nintendo Conference That Coulda Been

Shaun White = best part.

Oh god, I’m crying
And all that could have been…

That would’ve been the perfect Nintendo conference. If they really pay attention to websites like Miyamoto said they do, they should have a pretty clear idea of how maddeningly pithy their conference was this year.
Miyamoto - 07.21.08 2:34 pm
Well, if they honestly believe, as Miyamoto does, that E3 is for the “casual” market then they simply won’t care what the Internet says. Reggie’s additional comments since then paint a picture of a company that feels it did a good job there, for better or worse.
What’s going to matter to them more is how Newsweek or whatever reacts to it. It certainly seemed like their entire pitch was aimed squarely at that section of the press. I guess we’ll find out how successful that was. It probably will work out fine for them.

Wow- The amazing thing is, that -could have happened.- Maybe. They have the games, they just chose to go in a different direction, and it was kind of sad.
Namssorg - 07.21.08 4:35 pm
Why would they show games people like us would like when they could show games like Wii Music…y’know, to capture the interest of that vital soccer mom demographic that follows E3.
Blue_Falcon - 07.21.08 9:48 pm
Well, Ninty still does their Spaceworld show don’t they? I’d expect way more from Spaceworld than E3.
9th Sage - 07.21.08 10:33 pm
9th Sage: There hasn’t been a Spaceworld since 2001.
Blue_Falcon - 07.21.08 10:45 pm
Regardless, Blue_Falcon, I’d expect way more from this year’s Spaceworld than E3 too =^u.u^=

That picture gets me so excited, and it’s not real

HAHAAAAH
Killicious.

“Should have been” indeed. :/

This isn’t really that great. Its poorly written; but I agree, the conference was not very well thought out.
Concerto - 07.22.08 10:09 am
Is not even on stage.
Also, someone really does need to introduce him as Shigeru Effing Miyamoto. Just ONCE.
GeorgeR - 07.22.08 2:45 pm
Far too complacent - Ninty needs a reminder that only 2 years ago they were in the SHIT. They might have turned it around (and produced several stellar titles along the way) but let’s not sit back and count the coins. Dang.

I cannot wait for this game. I absolutely loved the first two Pikmin games. As for the Nintendo conference - Actually, it didn’t really surprise mean. I mean, Nintendo is trying to go after the mainstream, which I think is good. The more “hardcore” stuff, if you even want to call it that, will then be shown at a later time. As a bit of a sidenote though, I have to say, RE5 is looking pretty amazing!
