I Love Geeks is probably the hottest title on the DS here today. It’s « The Incredible Machine » for the DS. The final US version will have a graphic overhaul and a story written by Marc Ecko and his team. You work in the school lab with 4 scientist, you help them solve puzzles in their daily task. At the same time you’re trying to get rid of the bullies that have been causing you trouble to win the heart of the beautiful cheerleader. Each scientist will introduce some new gameplay mechanics.

So here’s my first impression on the game. It plays great, it uses both the touch screen and the d-pad (or the buttons for you lefties). On the top screen you get to see the play field and on the bottom you have the parts that are available for this level. You select your parts and click on the button in the interface to switch the top and bottom screen, then you place your pieces where you want to. You can use the d-pad to rotate some pieces (platforms, pipes, etc.). The first couple of puzzles were fairly easy, and I’m ashamed to say I got stuck on the 6th level…. yeah I know. If you’re really stuck, you can use the in game hint system. The way it works is, if you don’t know where to place a certain piece, you select it and click on the hint icon and it will tell you where it goes.

There’s also a multiplayer mode, which is basically a time attack on a certain puzzle. So first one to finish it wins the game. Not really fair for someone who never did the puzzle before, and you can only do the puzzles that have been unlock by the one creating the room. So you can’t say we’ll do level 50 because neither one did it, it won’t be available.

Any fans of the classic “The Incredible Machine” must add this title to their game library this winter. With 100 puzzles and multiple way to do them, you’ll be busy for hours.
