I’m heading out to San Francisco Tuesday morning for CDV’s press event on Wednesday. I’ll keep this post updated throughout the day Wednesday. Once I know which games I’ll be playing, I’ll be able to take your questions (through our comments) and ask them to the different developers of each games.
Be sure to check often on Wednesday.

Update 2
Pics and Impressions

I Love Geek

I Love Geeks is probably the hottest title on the DS here today. It’s « The Incredible Machine » for the DS. The final US version will have a graphic overhaul and a story written by Marc Ecko and his team. You work in the school lab with 4 scientist, you help them solve puzzles in their daily task. At the same time you’re trying to get rid of the bullies that have been causing you trouble to win the heart of the beautiful cheerleader. Each scientist will introduce some new gameplay mechanics.

So here’s my first impression on the game. It plays great, it uses both the touch screen and the d-pad (or the buttons for you lefties). On the top screen you get to see the play field and on the bottom you have the parts that are available for this level. You select your parts and click on the button in the interface to switch the top and bottom screen, then you place your peices where you want to. You can use the d-pad to rotate some pieces (platforms, pipes, etc.). The first couple of puzzles were fairly easy, and I’m ashamed to say I got stuck on the 6th level…. yeah I know. If you’re really stuck, you can use the in game hint system. The way it works is, if you don’t know where to place a certain piece, you select it and click on the hint icon and it will tell you where it goes.

There’s also a multiplayer mode, which is basically a time attack on a certain puzzle. So first one to finish it wins the game. Not really fair for someone who never did the puzzle before, and you can only do the puzzles that have been unlock by the one creating the room. So you can’t say we’ll do level 50 because neither one did it, it won’t be available.
Any fans of the classic “The Incredible Machine” must add this title to their game library this winter. With 100 puzzles and multiple way to do them, you’ll be busy for hours.

Update 3
City Life DS

City Life DS is being made by the same team that developed the PC version. City Life is a city building game similar to Sim City, but it focuses more on building your city and less on balancing your tax budget. By less, I mean that you can’t even set taxes. City Life DS has 6 social classes ranging from poor to rich and they each have their own demands. Your role in the game is to help the mayor build the city because he’s not really good at his job. There where three game modes to play in: Campaign, Challenge and Free play mode.

One neat thing you can do is select a building and zoom in to the street level. In the street view, you will see what’s going on around that particular building.

I had time to try the first two scenarios. Just to give you an idea of how the mayor will interfere with your work, during the first campaign, an assistant will ask you to create some houses in a certain area. Once you get to the second scenario, the mayor decides that he didn’t like where you placed them, so he decides to bring them all down and build them in a new spot. The added story in the campaign mode is a nice addition, city-building games usually don’t have much of a plot.

If you can find out what characters will be playable in Had To Pull Them Down For Now, that would be much appreciated!

It was good chatting with you at the event, Edgar. Admittedly, that was the first one-of-those-types-of-events I’ve been to, so it was cool being able to bounce solid thoughts and impressions off one another throughout the day.
I was just checking out your coverage here so I’d know what to plagiarize
Take care, man.
