I saw WALL•E this past weekend and have to say that it’s probably my favorite Pixar flick yet. To continue my enjoyment I’ve been perusing the web looking for cool WALL•E related things that we didn’t cover in our last post. Check out a video of a real life WALL•E robot, a sweet WALL•E Lego creation and finally, a WALL•M… or Mitch’s version of WALL•E… or himself as a robot… I’m really not sure.

Too awesome! Love the real Wall*e bot. I want it!

Yup, it was a great movie! Glad you got to see it Nick.

Movie was meh. First half an hour was good, but the stylistically disabled humans, and forced political commentary was a huge turn off.

Hey, at least they presented their message about a million times more subtly than the makers of Happy Feet conveyed theirs.

Wall-E is wonderful, and I don’t understand gripes about the “political message” - as far as I know, over-reliance on technology and automation has been a major theme of science fiction since its inception, and the idea that responsible stewardship of the planet is a “political issue” is extremely depressing to me. Also, the way in which the message was presented was far from forced - the interactions between Wall-E and Eve always took center stage, and the movie made it very easy to take or leave the message as you see fit.
The one bizarre thing is the merchandising that’s going along with this movie - I really don’t know what they’re thinking by hosting a BnL website that sells overpriced T-shirts and coffee mugs. Did they watch their own movie?

@Grant
Well said.

Does anyone have the sprites they showed in the end credits? I really want them!

Oh, and @ Grant:
You said yourself that people can take or leave the message in the movie. The overpriced shirts and mugs are for those that DON’T get the message.

I so want to make one… where are the directions?! I want a mini-johnny-5 lego figure!

Grant and Chris -
The overpriced t-shirts and mugs are absolutely for people who get the message, but people who get the message and also love irony.

Right - I’ve decided to take the merchandising for Wall-E as a Disney/Pixar exercise in post-modernism.
