It’s that time of year again. Summer’s at its peak, the movie season is also reaching its apex, and Pixar is getting ready to release their next feature film. As good a movie as last year’s Ratatouille was, something about it just missed that little bit of “oompf” that I kinda expected from a Pixar film. What I think that movie lacked, and this is a completely personal taste, was a fundamentally interesting premise to someone like me. And so, knowing how much I enjoyed Ratatouille anyway, it would be an understatement to say I’m immensely anticipating Wall-E. I tend to look at it this way: The most innovative and technologically groundbreaking animation studio in the world is making a futuristic science-fiction movie starring robots in space. There is so much right with that sentence that I don’t even know where to start.
To help you get ready for tomorrow, here’s a link to as much Wall-E related videos and features as I could find.
Official Wall-E Website
Apple Trailer page with all the Wall-E vignettes
Collection of High Resolution Movie Stills
Featurette about all aspects of the movie
“Lots of Bots” Featurette
“A Hero’s Journey” Featurette
“The Man and the Machine” Featurette
“The Look and Sound of Space” Featurette
“The Making of Wall-E” Clips <- this one is super cool

First! Me too! I can’t wait til Wall-E comes out. I already have my tickets for tomorrows screening. I think that this is gonna be the best movie by far that Pixar has come out with. Only one day left til Wall-E comes out!

Ratatouille was about food! How is that not fundamentally interesting? Or at the very least a fundamental necessity for all human beings.
Maybe I just loved it because I worked in a kitchen throughotu college.

Rob meets Glados movie looked interesting until I saw how they were going to make the humans look like. I was hoping for this to be some sort of darker film with some sort of message, but I feel like I’m wrong already. It still looks like another generic Pixar movie to me.

“Another generic Pixar movie” sounds like an oxymoron to me…
I mean the quality of each individual animation is something else to argue about, but all Pixar films are nothing if not unique.
Scypher - 06.26.08 6:39 pm
@SHORTY1K The film will most definitely have a message, in fact, the designs of the humans are directly related to the message. I’m not sure I understand what you’re trying to get at.

What?! I know nothing about this movie. I didn’t even realize it was coming out this year.
I thought Ratatouille was absolutely delightful, and reminded me that cinema can be a wonderful experience. Hyperbole? Ehhh… possibly. I don’t watch movies too often. But I thought Ratatouille was a perfect Pixar movie. I didn’t really care about the premise, but the characters completely made the movie for me (as Pixar characters pretty much always do).
The only Pixar films I haven’t seen yet are Toy Story 2 and Cars. This one won’t pass me by.
Wait, just watched the trailer. HOLY CRAP GRAPHICS. It’s amazing that every year these guys can wow me with their technical mastery. Damn.

The deviantart link accompanying your post makes this comment utterly hilarious.

I saw Wall-E in a screening on wednesday and it’s very good. the quality you expect from Pixar. Ratatouille was a G movie that felt like a G movie. Wall-E is G but it doesn’t feel particularly lower rated. High recommend. The shorts by the way keep getting better and better. I thought the alien kid was funny but this one is a bit better.

I’m excited to see it tonight

Holy hell, I wasn’t attacking any of you, I was simply giving my outlook on what I saw in the trailer. I keep forgetting that those who post in the 4cr news aren’t of the same kindness as those on the forums. Oh and also, go to hell ETW.
I was disappointed with the humans since I was hoping they would look more realistic and almost evil, THAT would have been awesome, but instead, they look like they did in the Incredibles, thus it looked like another generic Pixar movie to me. I may feel differently after I see the flic, but those are my initial reactions. You want to attack me again for it, so f-ing be it.

I just saw it. Great movie, or greatest movie?

I loved it. In terms of emotional impact I felt like it was Pixar’s best movie.
However, I don’t think Andrew Stanton is as good of a storyteller as Brad Bird. The captain’s speech, particularly, was a little over the top. It was amazing visually, amazing emotionally, and average as a sci-fi story goes. It was still an incredible incredible movie.

It’s an excellent movie. Go see it!

I put together a review, compiling my thoughts and all that jazz, if you care to take a look see:

And yes, SYXED, I agree in many ways. Not so much with the Captain’s comments, but about Stanton in general. Stanton is great in his own right but Brad Bird is about creating great, mainstream stories that will appeal to (American) audiences in a big way. Stanton’s a little more niche and counter-culture.

Go see this movie, now… go… what are you still doing here? What an amazing movie, I loved it, the kids loved it. I have a new pixar fav.
EB - 07.01.08 6:30 am
Benny, I wouldn’t quite say it’s counter-culture because everyone loved Finding Nemo — and don’t get me wrong I really like Stanton too — it’s that Stanton’s stories seem more like a series of disjointed events, particularly Finding Nemo, than Brad Bird’s stories which feel expertly crafted with no one scene or line of the dialogue in the movie you can do without. In Wall-e, every scene that didn’t contribute was still great emotionally, but there was definitely the feeling that it was a bit episodic. Maybe I’m just biased about Brad Bird, I’ve been a fan of his since the Iron Giant.
