This is turning out to be an awesome day for WiiWare news. Sunsoft has announced that they are developing a digital comic viewer for the Wii. This platform will allow gamers to buy manga directly from the WiiWare service.
The company has also announced a digital publishing outlet, Sunsoft Books, to distribute original content to the platform. The first series to launch will be a new title from Leiji Matsumoto, creator of such awesome series as Galaxy Express 999 and Captain Harlock.
The comic viewer and digital delivery service will launch this summer. No word yet on pricing or if we’ll see this outside of Japan.

Well, this is intriguing.

Sounds cool. I’d normally be unimpressed since digital distribution relies extremely heavily on what they can manage to feature - but it’s good to hear that they have the support of award-winning Leiji Matsumoto from the get-go.

Cool, I highly doubt I’d ever buy any of them, but still a neat idea.

This is Japan only for now. No way this comes to US for a long time if ever.

I liked Mario when I was 8 years old. I still do oddly…what the fuck is wrong with me?

I thought rotating pictures and sliding text in a website was cool when I was young. Nowadays, I just find it distracting, fugly and consequently rather sad.
Now being on-topic, this sounds rather cool
I have no idea who Harlock is, but I’ll believe anyone who says it’s cool. It would be nice if they incorporated more recent manga also… or perhaps even a subscription to Shonen Jump or somesuch through WiiWare.
