Even though I haven’t purchased a Guitar Hero game since 2 (which I sold after the first week), I am pretty excited for this game. IGN got a first look at the game today and it looks phenomenal. Not only are the peripherals higher quality than ever (don’t worry though, older guitars will work with the game), but there are also some really cool new features including a very robust song creator.
One of the reasons I didn’t like Guitar Hero 2 or 3 is because I hated the song lists. Fortunately, this will no longer be a problem. If you don’t like any of the 85 songs in the game, you can simply create your own. This feature alone may force me to buy this game.
Oh, and Wii owners don’t need to worry. Activision says that the Wii version will be fully featured, unlike the Wii versions of Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3.
Read more about the song creator and see pictures of the instruments over at IGN

85 master tracks.
GHTunes.
Quality peripherals.
EVERLONG.
Game of the Forever CONFIRMED!

i am a moron because i think that guitar hero came later than rock band.
IAN - 06.19.08 6:52 pm
Sounds… really good.
It looks like all the stupid that they injected into GH 3 will have gone away…………. actually it looks like this game will be Rock Band but better, instead of Guitar Hero 2 but worse.
Simon - 06.19.08 7:20 pm
what are you so mad about? I ment that gh with all the instruments came too late. if i would have known that gh4 would have all those instruments, i might have chosen it over rock band. But now that ive already invested in rock band with all the instruments, im not going to buy gh4, which is essentially the same thing
Ian - 06.19.08 7:24 pm
ian assuming you’re addressing me, i actually wasn’t talking to you, just commenting in general.
Anyway…… the impression I get from reading more of this article is that Rock Band kind of pissed off the Guitar Hero people by showing them up so bad (rock band vs. gh3, hmm…), so now GH is kind of clubbing Rock Band to death and having its way with the corpse.
Simon - 06.19.08 7:35 pm
Though I do assume Harmonix will eventually come back with an even more impressive rebuttal.
Simon - 06.19.08 7:36 pm
No, I was addressing the other “Ian” who was impersonating me, not you.
Ian - 06.19.08 7:37 pm
wow, like 3 ians. holy crap.
Simon - 06.19.08 7:49 pm
yea lol
Ian - 06.19.08 7:56 pm
I agree that GH3’s song list could’ve been better, but GH2??? I think that has the best song list of any GH game out there. On Tour looks like it will be pretty decent too, so Sunday should be a great day for me. I already played it and for a DS version of a peripheral-based console game, it is really quite amazing.

def agree with andrex. The thing that always turned me off about rockband was the periphs. These appear to be quality products. The GH 3 guitar was very nice also- strongly built and these appear to follow suit. Very excited, can’t wait for october.

I loved GH 2 & 3. GH4 is taking it to another level.
MAL - 06.19.08 11:57 pm
Creating your own songs definitely won’t be that easy lol. I hope people aren’t setting themselves up for frustration there.
I can’t imagine hating the track lists in 1 and 2(although I was mixed on 2’s until the 360 got those 10 bonus tracks), but to each their own.

Also, I agree these instruments definitely look better… but at the same time, I’m very unhappy that there is no longer a standard to follow. Rock Band’s drums have 4 pads, GH4’s have 5 and then Konami’s game has 6. Come on.
I just don’t have room for 3 freaking drum kits and that means only one of these is getting my attention. I already have Rock Band, so that’s probably the end of it.
Tony - 06.20.08 10:51 am
Well, Konami’s DrumMania had 5 pads and a pedal, and players dealt with that just fine. Although as a fan of rhythm games, particularly Bemani, I think Rock Revolution looks REALLY horrid. At least it’s KoA is behind it and not KoJ or else I’d be starting to panic as to the future of GuitarFreaks/DrumMania. xD
As to keep on topic, the only reason I’m not interested in either Guitar Hero IV or Rock Band is simply down to the song list. I’ve never been much into normal music like that. ;O;’
So yeah, don’t treat what I said about Bemani as an argumentative comment. Just using it as an example. If people do it’ll remind me of fanboy arguments that pop up over YouTube videos so frequently now. =.=;

I’m not sure if you mean in terms of difficulty or not… I am not aware of a home version of Drumania that came with a kit here.
My point was more that with a Rock Band set, how can I properly use that with Guitar Hero IV and Rock Revolution, both of which have additional pads? Or even GHIV with Rock Revolution? In that sense, any standard that might have been set is thrown out the window and we now have three different sets that can’t possibly work 100% with one another.
It’s made even worse by Activision’s push to make sure nothing else works with their games. You can’t use the Rock Band controller with GHIII or GHII on the 360, for example.
Tony - 06.20.08 2:04 pm
Nah, I don’t think a CS version of DrumMania/GuitarFreaks has been released outside of Japan. Konami also don’t seem to market bundles with a proper controller for their Bemani PS2 releases, either.
Sorry, I kinda assumed you meant they were attempting to out-do one another in terms of challenging drums. Although if you haven’t bought any of the three games yet, you could always splash out a bit more and buy an electronic kit, which can be compatible with all 3, I’m guessing. (Assuming it works with RR, which has a crazy layout) xD
But yeah, to be honest, if I knew I would be buying more than one of those games, I’d buy an electric kit and a 3rd party (of decent quality) guitar that’s compatible with Rock Band, Guitar Hero, and Guitar Freaks. Which are available.
Unfortunately, the song lists of these games doesn’t match my music taste, and after a long while of consideration, I think I might finally buy DrumMania/GuitarFreaks V3 and a pad. Maybe once I can pass 12*s on IIDX, hahaha. ;O;’

Well I only have a Wii, so I had to settle with GH3 instead of Rock Band, and since it took Harmonix 7 freaking months to come out with Rock Band Wii and now Guitar Hero: World Tour is announced on the eve of release of Rock Band Wii I have some serious reconsidering to do.
So where’s a rundown of features and which game has what
Guitars, drums, microphone
Rock Band Wii: Check
GH4: Check and I can use my GH3 controller and the GH4 drums are going to be quieter. GH4 guitar has touch control slider thing
Downloadable content
Rock Band Wii: No, for Wii you’ll have to buy expansion discs.
GH4: Yes.
Create a character
Rock Band Wii: No.
GH4: Yes. And customize your instruments. At least I think the Wii version will let you do that.
Create music
Rock Band Wii: No
GH4: Yes.
So why should I plunk down $180 for Rock Band next week if I wait 5 more months (I’ve already waited 7!) I can get GH4?
metalface13 - 06.21.08 2:25 am
You can’t create your own character in the Wii version of Rock Band? That’s kind of weird.
Tony - 06.21.08 7:02 pm
Three different drum sets, each for what seems to be three different consoles? Game stores must be pissed right about now. At least the mics are cross-compatible…
Kyattsuai - 06.23.08 10:33 pm
uh…you haven’t purchased a guitar hero game since 2? THERE’S ONLY BEEN ONE MORE SINCE 2. don’t you think it’s a bit riduclous to say that? makesi t sound like there have been dozens. you have only missed out on one. you are annoying. i hated 2 and 3 too, but you’re still annoying.
