There have been a lot of rumors and leaks going on these past few days. Most of them have been specifically about the Xbox 360, but one of the biggest rumors could be about any of the systems.
Megaman 9 was recently rated by the OFLC and then right after that, a mysterious being named “The Shadow” released this information:
- Rockman 9 will feature a retro 8-bit art style, a homage to the earlier games.
- Two playable characters: Rockman and Blues (ProtoMan). Each has their own unique storylines.
- A popular belief is that RM9 will act as the ‘link’ to the events of the X Series. This is not so, The storyline DOES NOT lead into the X Series, rather it’s a ‘traditional’ plot.
- Many new characters, new Robot Masters and maybe some new supporting characters.
- Gameplay is reminiscent of Rockman 3-6.
- Online components: Leader boards and some unknown form of online play
- RM9 will be on all major home consoles: Wii, X360 and PS3. X360 and PS3 users will be able to purchase the game from their respective download services. It’s unknown how the Wii version will work, whether it will be a downloaded game or not.
The most exciting thing is the 8-bit graphics and gameplay similar to the older Megaman NES games. I’ve had about enough of these Battle Network and ZX games, so maybe Megaman 9 will restore my faith in the series.

Sweet!

Huzzah! Although I have to admit it’s sad to loose the mystique that surrounded the fabled 9th game. So many theories about it linking into the X series lost now…

I agreeeee .. enough of these zxy whatever games and lets have some classic mega man!

I’m really glad this won’t be some sort of link between the regular series and the X series. I’m perfectly content to have those two exist quite seperate from one another. I’m very interested to see what this game ends up looking like.

There’s a storyline in Megaman?

I don’t buy it. As a jaded megaman fan, I gotta say, no way in hell would Capcom do something this brilliant. And if they did, it would be a wiiware/PSN/360 Arcade game.

Great, now I have to clean up my computer screen/keyboard.

First they’re making a new Street Fighter and now possibly a new Megaman based on the original Megaman series? Maybe Capcom realizes that us older gamers still play and love their older series? Dear lord, let this be true!

Psh.
Mega Man Legends 3, please.

I loved the Mega Man ZX series, don’t bash it
At least it is still an action packed side scroller (although a tad on the easier side)… unlike the perversion that is the Battle Network series… ungh.
Mega Man was incredibly in 8-Bit form… when they tried to make Mega Man work for the SNES and PS, it just wasn’t the same at all. Nothing beats the 8-Bit look and sounds of Mega Man.
Same with Mega Man X games… they didn’t need to look flashier or have a new supperior graphics style. They were awesome in pixels.

Are you people forgetting that Capcom is bringing an updated art style Bionic Commando, as well as a third person Bionic Commando? They are really deep diving into their classic franchises and maintaining the old school nature of each.
Check www.BionicCommando.com and watch the videos from both games.

Er, I actually liked Megaman Battle Network… It’s a nicely crafted game.

@Rayraytea
Yeah, but do we really need FIVE of them? Plus Starforce, which I think is pretty similar.
@D-Overmind
That’s one of my most anticipated games of the year (the 2-D one). It looks so fun.

Very cool news. Though, shouldn’t this be a DS/PSP game instead, in the style of Game Centre CX titles? I’m imagining something that looks and sounds authentically 8-bit, but plays more like a 3rd gen title. Please don’t disappoint me Capcom! Like you always do these days!

I would love to see this happen. I miss the old series, and have had enough of the GBA/DS games. The first few Battle Network games were okay, but now it’s getting absurd with the starforce games. The ZX games were okay, but they just weren’t the same. I agree that it would have been nice to have seen something linking the original and X series with the fabled “cataclysm.” Although what I really want are more of those PSP remakes. I loved Powered Up and Maverick Hunter X, and want to see more of those,at least just a Powered Up 2 (come on you all know Bubble Man would be awesome as a Chibi!!!).

Hey, have any of you heard of The Protomen? They’re a megaman themed band, who unlike most of the Video game bands out there, write their own stuff. They’ve written a rock opera that appeals to pretty much anyone. They’ve got a new album coming out soon and chances are you’ll really like their stuff- http://www.protomen.com/
