May was yet another whirlwind month for most of us here at 4cr, but we still found time kick back and play some games. Personally, I find that the busier I am, the more I need some YTAG or SMB at the end of the day to wind down. Best stress-relievers around! Read on to find out what we played during May, and let us know what kept you busy, too.

Jody:
Been playin’ Metroid Prime 3, and replaying The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. I love that game. I have also been playing Wii Fit every day and have gone up 5 pounds since getting the game. Lame.
Edgar:
This Month, I’ve been playing The Lord of the Rings Online and some boardgames I recently acquired. World of Warcraft: the Boardgame , Wreckage , Kingdoms, and Arena Maximus.
Evan:
I really haven’t played a lot of games this month. On the console front, I’ve played a little Mario Kart Wii and 007: Everything or Nothing. EoN is an absolutely fantastic 3rd person shooter with a cool cover system, a lot of variety, and an awesome (but seperate) co-op mode. On the DS front, I finally picked up Pokemon Emerald which I found for twenty bucks. I’ve also been playing a little TWEWY, which is an absolutely fantastic game, and Golden Sun, which is good but not great. And finally, I hooked up the ol’ SNES and started playing through Lufia 2.
Mitch:
You wouldn’t believe it, but I started working full time over the summer, and that leaves a lot less time for games that I initially imagined! Between waiting for the Mother 3 Fan Translation Project to feed my aching soul, I’ve been sneaking in a little time here and there with Boom Blox. It ain’t much, but man, it’s fun. Give it a whirl if you can.
June:
I’ve been away from home since early May, so this hasn’t been much of a gaming month! It started off with some Okami for the Wii, then it was back to playing more Pokémon on my flight to the exotic land of America! While wandering a Software Etc. (a mysterious place that doesn’t exist in Ontario) I snagged a copy of Tactics Ogre for the GBA. Sweet deal!

Shaun:
I recently rediscovered how in-depth the fighting system of Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is and have been thoroughly enjoying getting into it. Obviously it’s a lot better to play with friends, and luckily for me I know two of the best Street Fighter players ever. Needless to say, I’ve been getting my ass kicked mercilessly but the few times I’ve managed to sneak out a victory are super sweet.
My fascination/obsession over Fantasy Zone continues, and I finally checked out the Operations Guide in the Virtual Console version to find that there are rapid fire shortcuts built into the game! I have also just realized that the arcade version of the game is even more insane. I’d never played it until this week.
Rumas:
Crazy busy month, but I managed to spend a good amount of time in May winding down with games, and had a blast in the process. Started things out with the ever-amazing Yoshi Touch & Go, then it was Mario Kart Wii, which I played for the entire month. It’s not perfect, but I love it. And go figure, I’m the guy who can’t play without the Wii Wheel. The thing is just awesome. On the Virtual Console, I got into Star Tropics for the first time ever, and I got back into Mario Kart 64 and SMB 3. Gotta admit, for all its failings, I still love the VC.

Harvest Moon DS Cute. Shhhhh, it’s fun!

A bit of Okami, the more you go deep in the game the better it gets. Also, WiiWare took some of my time (I really haven’t got much time lately) for LostWinds which I finished and I think it’s an amazing little game. I’ve also bought Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection that is simply amazing and so addictive… then my Wii broke. Not much on the DS, it seems I’m not much into it lately.
i_am_error - 06.04.08 12:26 pm
Wii: Rayman Raving Rabbids 2, No More Heroes and House of the Dead 2/3
Virtual Console: Sin & Punishment, Shining in the Darkness, Neutopia II, Mystical Ninja and Kirby’s Dream Course.
Wiiware: Lost Winds.
DS: Hotel Dusk and Picross DS.
PS2: Guitar Hero II.

It’s been Mario Kart Wii for me. I actually dodged a blue shell in an online race in Maple Treeway (a course where I ususally make dumb mistakes). I was lucky enough to get a mushroom from a leaf pile. And I didn’t even get screwed by a hundred other items after that save! That felt good.
I downloaded River City Ransom and Ninja Gaiden III. I guess I’ll have to get the first NG at some point. NGII is still my favorite by far.
Also, I’ve been playing Super Mario 64 DS again because my memory got corrupted somehow. I can’t for the life of me remember where that last castle star is. (Not the one behind the white door, it’s another one.)

For me lately, it has been mostly ‘The World Ends with You’, and Rudra no Hihou (Treasure of the Rudra) which is a Japanese SNES game that never officially came out here, though it was translated by the fan community. It’s getting really good, there are three different characters you can pick, and you have to go through each of their chapters (so far my favorite has to be Surlent’s tale). Their stories weave in and out of each other, all culminating in their desire to circumvent the ancient doom that is quickly descending unto their world. Plus the magic system, called Mantras, is pretty interesting. You don’t get spells from levelling, but you can enscribe your own. It takes some practice, but you will learn different forumulas…for example, Ig is a fire spell, adding na (Igna) makes it target all. There’re other things you can add to power it up too.
Anyway, good stuff. OH, and also, I’m borrowing Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles from my parents.
9th Sage - 06.04.08 1:29 pm
Oh, and Wii Fit. I can tell I’m getting a bit more fit (after using it for around an hour a day for a couple of weeks) and I even lost a few pounds.

Mostly been playing Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles My life as a King and Ginormo ( http://babarageo.com/flash/ginormo/index.html ) Both are quite fun.
captain_duck - 06.04.08 1:42 pm
Sadly, the only game I’ve REALLY been playing has been Harvest Moon: Magical Melody for the Gamecube, and a little Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles… with some Wii Sports, Excitetruck, and Mario Galaxy mixed in. I think I started off the month playing No More Heroes… gotta get back to that.
Boots - 06.04.08 2:10 pm
Jeez, I can’t believe I forgot all about the awesomeness that is Defend Your Castle. Despite it being a re-make of a Flash game, the updates are well worth the cover price. Four-player games have rarely been as hectic or fun… And the sound and visual effects are brilliant.

DS
I gave up on TWEWY because the story is boring, and the characters are unlikable and malnourished.
Electroplankton - Been revisiting this gem. Always fun.
Anxiously awaiting Fire Emblem DS…
Wii
MKWii is alright, but it’s just so lackluster when compared to a few friends in the same room with a copy of BRAWL.
No More Heroes - Is anyone else stuck permanently on Shinobu? That boss is INSANELY difficult. I almost broke a Wiimote in my frustrations.
Howard Roark - 06.04.08 4:01 pm
Okami, (A blast to play on the Wii, controls take a little getting use to at first)
Mario Kart Wii, (The most accessible game of the series but definitely not the worst)
Wii Fit. (It does make working out fun and it has helped shedding of a few pounds)
MAL - 06.04.08 4:03 pm
Been playing TWEWY (which is an AMAZING game) and on the Wii front just a little bit of Guitar Hero 3. I’ve been skating more than playing video games since I got my new skateboard recently… xD
AJ - 06.04.08 4:04 pm
After all these years, I finally got the opportunity to play Jet Set Radio Future and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, both of which are awesome. I also started going through Banjo Kazooie again, as part of my mourning for a true Banjo Threeie. Throw in some Wii Fit and Rock Band, and that’s pretty much my month in games.
Kyattsuai - 06.04.08 4:05 pm
Yoshi’s Touch and Go is great. Very underrated by reviewers. It was better than Cursed Canvas, for example. I’d love to see a true sequel.
Carl - 06.04.08 6:42 pm
I’ve been working to keep my score above 9000 in online Mario Kart Wii. The occasional item-f*cking does make for low placements and losses of up to 200 points (during one race, I was barely behind another 9000+-player, and that bastard wasn’t getting hit by ANYTHING… Yet just seconds after I’d actually tossed a red shell at’em from a distance, and they’d actually been hit due to getting careless with items, I zoomed ahead, and guess what came in from behind just a few turns from the finish line? Thaaaat’s right. SwoooshBLAM! Okay, so I was still in second place. Just gotta get around those last two swoooshBLAM! Seventh place. Also, getting hit by lava or POW-blocks just in time to fall off the track is so much fun.)
Also been getting into Suikoden 2. Which is hella old-school, but fun.
MrP - 06.04.08 6:46 pm
And yes, bikes are much more awesome than karts in MKWii, even if I occasionally miss kart-racing. And it’s way easier to avoid a full spin when a POW-block hits with the bike.
MrP - 06.04.08 6:53 pm
I spent the month playing SSBM, SSBB (not really by choice), Final Fantasy VII, Super Mario Bro., Mega Man X, and I started up a new game of Resident Evil 4 Wii at the end of the month.
Pretty slow month, over-all.
Mune - 06.04.08 10:16 pm
This month I have been playing mostly games from my backup library that I still have not beaten, some of which that I am quite embarrassed about (Ocarina of Time, Super Metroid, and FF VI to name a few). But on the flipside, I am having a fantastic time with Earthbound, Mother 1 via ROM, Wind Waker, and TWEWY right now; TWEWY truly is an incredible game, easily one of the top 5 DS games of all time. All of you owe it to yourselves to buy this rare original masterpiece from Square Enix; they very rarely make something that isn’t FF, DQ, or KH, so buy it to support them in this crazy new venture.
Mofax - 06.04.08 11:21 pm
Honestly, this past month has been almost all GTA IV. Man, what a game! The story’s pretty good, the characters are awesome, gameplay is chaotic in a good way, and the city is just soooo alive…it’s mind boggling the level of detail that went into this thing…scary. Have yet to touch the multiplayer.
Need to get back into SSBB…
DCSimian - 06.05.08 12:33 am
No More Heroes
Metal Gear Solid 3
Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition
Bioshock
Super Smash Bros Brawl
Ico
Crass Topher - 06.05.08 1:47 pm
MOFAX, you serious? Yes, I agree that Square makes awesome games when it isn’t FF, or DQ, but don’t lump Kingdom Hearts in there. For petes same man, it was made by the same development team as Kingdom Hearts.
And don’t be all “All Square does is pump out sequels for KH”, because they don’t. There’s 2 games in the series, with one spin off.
Yea, so don’t insult my series boy!
And The world ends with You is awesome, buy it, it deserves the money!
Lil_fighter - 06.05.08 7:10 pm
I have been thoroughly enjoying Kousoku Card Battle: Card Hero on the DS, sometimes called High-Speed Card Battle: Card Hero. This hand-held CCG was a surprise winner from out of nowhere. Really great game play system, tailor-made for the DS and it even has WIFI play with strangers and friends (voice-chat included for friends).
I’ve also finally gotten around to playing Oblivion, what a nerd-trap, sucked into planning my stats and looting caves, good stuff.
