For this week’s Fun For Free, I found a cool Portal-inspired game called Epsilon.

Epsilon is a browser based game that was created for the Armor Games website by EON. It’s a puzzle game with similar gameplay elements to another web game called Portal: The Flash Version, which is basically a 2D version of Valve’s Portal. The biggest difference in Episilon is that you don’t have a character to control, so you are just moving portals around a screen and using a few other abilities to beat each level. To complete a level, your ball must collect all the orbs and go through the exit. There are numerous obstacles in its way, such as time limits, walls, and Gravitational Shift Units.

The presentation of the game is nice and clean. It doesn’t do anything spectacular, but it doesn’t do anything necessarily wrong either. The music is kind of bland and gets repetitive fairly quickly, but you can turn it off.
The levels in Epsilon aren’t very difficult and the game itself is fairly short, both of which definitely hurt the game. But the game does continously add new elements and restrictions which keeps things interesting. All in all, it’s a pretty fun game and will give you at least a few minutes of enjoyment.

I remember seeing this game in development before anybody knew about Portal, I could be wrong though.
Very nicely presented for a flash game though.

This game was pretty cool indeed. The last level wasn’t glitchy for me.
It was actually really fun, and a good ending indeed.

@Captain 404
The concept for Portal has been around for AGES. I’m not saying your wrong, but I remember them releasing a vid of it a couple years ago.

Portal is essentially a spiritual sequel to Narbacular Drop (2005), but who knows how long that was in development. I’m not sure how old Epsilon is… so it kind of becomes difficult to compare.
But still, they’re different enough to coexist peacefully lol.

Its too hard for me to tell the difference between the various power-ups, there are ought to be more colors than glowy white. Otherwise a fun game.

From JiG:
“a casual portal-physics game that’s been in production for 14 months. Originally, the developers planned its release to coincide with Valve’s Portal”
So it was definitely Portal-inspired. I think I just heard about this before I actually heard about Portal
