As I have said before, I love Iwata Asks. Not only are they a fascinating, real life look at various people at Nintendo, but they also give you tons of awesome trivia about games that you’d never know otherwise:
- Miyamoto proposed that Ocarina of Time be an FPS?
- He wanted to give Link a gun in Link’s Crossbow Training and have a Terminator-style story about a time warp from the future?
- He loves FPSes?
All this and more in the newest Iwata Asks!

“This is the last Zelda in its current form”

Awesome trivia… such as… “The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, part of the Legend of Zelda Series, was the first 3D game for Nintendo 64, and was released in December 1998.”
I think someone at Nintendo needs to do better research…

Actually, that’s a translation error, as the Japanese article clearly states that it was the series’ first 3D game, not the N64’s. I just made a post on my blog about a mild translation error in that interview (as, clearly, I’m reading both) and seeing this (I was skipping the footnotes) kind of makes me feel a bit more confident that I’m right about it, though this one is more substantial. Many thanks.

You know I think the translations might be done in Europe and Ocarina of Time was released in December in Europe.

Actually, I remember reading about how in the pre-production stages, one of the ideas was to make Ocarina from a first person perspective. I’m pretty sure it was in an issue of Nintendo Power from around Ocarina’s launch…
Protip!: Through a convoluted series of glitches (that involves saving and quitting during the final battle with Ganon), you can actually play the game in a simulated first person viewpoint. Consult your local GameFAQs for details.

If you want something somewhat more like the Wii Zappaer circa E3 ‘05. try the Nyko Perfect Shot. I just got one, that thing rules. Having a light gun ‘pistol’ makes Ghost Squad even better to me, especially since I prefer the pistol-type weapons in that game.
